WPIAL playoff races are starting to take shape as the season enters its final leg. With just three more regular season games remaining, the contenders have begun to separate themselves. With only 8 teams making the 5A playoffs this year, the race is even tighter. The season has seen a number of surprising results so far, including last week when Bethel Park knocked off top-ranked Upper St Clair in decisive fashion. On this week’s edition of the WPIAL Blitz Show, we had the pleasure of interviewing Brian DeLallo, head coach of the Bethel Park Blackhawks who are now in commanding position in the 5A Allegheny Six Conference.

WPIAL Blitz Show Week 6 Player of the Week (Presented by Brute Athletic)
Our Player of the Week from Week 6 was Carmichaels QB Alec Anderson. In the Mighty Mikes victory over Monessen, Anderson threw for 291 yards and 4 TDs and ran for 50 yards and 2 more TDs. Monessen had been unbeaten in Tri-County South play and looked to be on a collision course with Mapletown for the conference title. But Carmicheals, thanks to the 6-TD effort of Anderson, pulled off a 40-36 upset of the Greyhounds.
Anderson was not alone in the 6 TD club this week as Western Beaver RB Tyson Florence ran for 210 yards and 6 scores. Southmoreland QB Kadin Keefer accounted for five total touchdowns (4 passing, 1 rushing) as did California’s Jake Layhue (3 passing, 2 rushing). Bishop Canevin’s Jason Cross was also a member of the 5 TD club this week with 3 passing touchdowns, a rushing touchdown, and a pick-six on defense.
