Things to Do While You Enjoy the Steelers’ BYE Week

The Pittsburgh Steelers are on their BYE week which means our emotional, mental and physical states get a breather. The problem of course is that most of us plan our gameday (or entire weekend) around the Steelers’ game. When this particular week comes however, we are left with a void. How do we fill this glaring absence in our hearts and our schedules? Well, let me offer some potential ideas on how to pass the time.

Clean Out Your Vehicle

I suppose this is some sort of ‘projection’ since this probably something I myself should be doing so what the hell, I’ll suggest it here for you. Take some time on Sunday and wipe down the dashboard, vacuum the seats and the floor. Slap some Rain-X on your windshield. Your vehicle will thank you.

Do Some Yardwork

I feel as though I just heard a thousand voices cry out at once… In unison I heard, “Shut up SteelDad!” as they read that sub-title. You damn well know there are things you should be doing around your dwelling and there’s no better time than this weekend to get those things done! Or you could always decorate for Halloween too.

Listen to the Podcast!

There’s a good chance you already listen to our Award Winning (this may or not be true) SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc but if you don’t… You need to give it a listen or a view!!

Play The ‘Find the Offense’ Game

So while you aren’t watching the Steelers this weekend, which means your heart will actually beat normally, you can instead watch a number of other NFL games. While you do, play a game in which you find an offense that looks better, more creative and more dynamic than Matt Canada’s does. Here’s a hint, you won’t struggle to find any.

Finalize Your Halloween Costume

There are so many great costume ideas out there these days but I think I have the perfect one. Simply get a white bed sheet and cut out two eyes. Add sunglasses and a straw hat and you have Matt Canada’s offense. Get it? It’s invisible.

Go to a Movie

Going to the movies really isn’t what it once was. The fact that you need to give up a kidney for a ticket and part of your liver for popcorn is a bit much, but you could always go to a matinee which typically are a bit cheaper. And if I may be honest, there’s nothing quite like inhaling a bucket of popcorn and then getting a refill before the main feature has even started. Not that I know anyone who has done this but it sounds good!

Read a Book About the Steelers

Do you have any idea how many awesome books there are out there about the Pittsburgh Steelers? From the 70’s dynasty and The Chief to The Bus and Troy Polamalu, there’s no shortage of good stuff out there. Besides, reading is good for you!

Get a Tattoo

Wouldn’t a nice, big Steelers logo look great on your upper arm? No? What about on your back? Wherever you get it, don’t forget to tip your artist. They can do amazing work!

Visit Some Family

Often times during the football season we can shove many things off to the side. Once such thing is our family. Perhaps you haven’t visited your dear, old granny. Maybe Uncle Phil is still waiting for you to come by and take care of those chores he annually has you do. Or… Maybe you need to actually spend some quality time with your significant other. There’s a good chance you’ve been like ships passing in the night since the season started.

Nothing

Lastly, do nothing. Enjoy the calm. Take in your surroundings. Appreciate that the world really does exist even when the Steelers aren’t playing. It’s OK. Give it a shot.
