by Steeldad

GreeneBoth Dan Rooney and son Art Rooney II announced the Pittsburgh Steelers would be retiring the number 75 jersey of Mean Joe Greene. He becomes just the second player in Steelers’ history to have his number retired. Ernie Stautner’s number 70 was retired decades ago.

The honor will be bestowed on Greene when the Baltimore Ravens come to town on November 2nd for a Sunday Night game at Heinz Field.

Greene was a 10-time Pro Bowl player who also earned All-Pro status five times. He entered the National Football League Hall of Fame in 1987. He will always be remembered as the cornerstone of the Steelers’ championship foundation of the 1970’s.

He also received Rookie of the year honors in 1969 and was twice named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year.
