Steelers Take WR in the Second and You Immediately Found Out Why

by Steeldad

I had every intention of breaking down the three selections made by the Pittsburgh Steelers last night in the 2017 NFL Draft but that idea went out the window with the click of a ‘send’ button by Martavis Bryant. In the second round, the Steelers selected USC wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and it didn’t take long to discover why.

Within minutes of the selection, Bryant tweeted the following:

lol that’s Sammie coates replacement not minds take it how you want to I am back.

Never mind the poor grammar and instead focus on the fact of whether this was a joke or was as straight-forward as it looks.

Here was the response of Coates and you’ll notice Bryant deleted his above tweet.

Any thought this was indeed “all in fun,” went out the window in my opinion with Bryant’s final tweet which he also deleted.

It’s a business so I treat it like that.

The back and forth elicited a parental style smackdown from Head Coach Mike Tomlin who tweeted the following:

I don’t really care how much faster Martavis Bryant is or how much stronger he is. What is blatantly obvious to me is that Bryant hasn’t matured at all during his one year hiatus from football. This was not the first time Bryant went at Coates either.

If you recall, he tweeted negatively after Coates’ big start to the season in 2016  as well.

Initially, I was not crazy about the selection of Smith-Schuster in the second round and I’m still not but I immediately started warming to it because of Bryant’s immaturity and total lack of common sense. I wrote last week prior to his reinstatement that the Steelers would approach this draft the exact same regardless of Bryant’s status and that was 100% accurate.

A lot of people ripped on Ben Roethlisberger for his ‘retirement-type’ comments following the AFC Title Game loss. Do you understand why he said that now? He’s tired of dealing with immature, childish and selfish receivers who put themselves above everything else.

Bryant’s actions are further proof of what Big Ben, the Steelers and many of us know. He may be bigger, faster and stronger but mentally he hasn’t changed at all.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We did like Bud Dupree’s response to this episode. It may show more leadership than either Martavis or Sammie displayed last night.
