The Pittsburgh Steelers traded former fourth round pick Kevin Dotson along with their 2024 fifth round pick and 2025 sixth round pick. In return the Steelers will receive the Rams’ 2024 fourth round selection and their 2025 fifth rounder.
With the mandatory cutdown day looming on Tuesday, this looks to be one of those moves that is good for all parties involved. For Dotson, it’s a fresh start. He’s battled injuries and just never seemed to play at the level the Steelers believed he could since coming out of Louisiana. He’s a far better run blocker than he is a pass blocker and that’s where most of his struggles existed. Moving out to Los Angeles to play with a rebuilding franchise may be good for him.
For the Steelers, it’s a bit of a knock on their guard depth but then again maybe not. I cannot see them doing this unless they were truly pleased with someone else on the roster. Who that is I’m not sure. There is no way that this should open a spot for Kendrick Green. If it does then I have serious questions about the mental health of Mike Tomlin and company. Perhaps it’s rookie Spencer Anderson? This could also be a prelude to another move but that’s pretty risky in my book.
The other reason making this a “good deal” is that the Steelers now get something in return for a player they seemed destined to be cutting. I think this another solid move by Omar Khan and company.
