SCB Three-Point Stance; What We’re Looking for Against the Panthers

by Steeldad

I’ll keep this brief simply because it’s the last preseason game and we’d all just like to pretend it already happened. That said, there are a few things to pay attention to this evening.

1. Can Landry Jones save his career? Tonight isn’t just about Jones trying to convince Mike Tomlin and Todd Haley that he deserves that roster spot as the third QB. Personally I think that ship has already sailed. This is about him doing some things tonight that will at least keep other teams in the league somewhat interested should he go on the practice squad and they be in dire need of help.

2. Can the specialists show some consistency? We know that Mike Tomlin is sticking with Brad Wing as his punter. We also know that Shaun Suisham is his kicker for some time because of his new contract extension. What we don’t know is whether or not these two can actually get out of the respective funks they are in. Suisham has been less than stellar in the place-kicking department while Wing will boom a sixty-yarder one minute and a 21-yarder the next. This HAS to get better.

3. Can the defense actually stop the run? The Dick LeBeau defense has given up over 500 yards on the ground in three preseason games. Brett Keisel returns to the Steelers tonight and is expected to play a lot in an effort to get himself ready for the opener. While he himself can’t do it all, we can only hope that his presence is enough to slow the torrid pace set by opposing running games.
