SCB Steelers Training Camp Tidbits Day Ten

by Steeldad

Welcome to the new Steel City Blitz Steelers Training Camp Tidbits presented by Taps N’At! This is a brand new feature this year and every single day from now until the end of Camp you’ll see tidbits right here. Our goal is simple; provide you with everything we are seeing, hearing and learning from St. Vincent College in Latrobe. This will be an abbreviated piece as the Steelers practice later than usual today.

If you’re going….

Steelers Practice for Friday: Noon to 6pm ET Steelers Fest in Latrobe, 7pm practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium

Latrobe Weather for Friday: 78 degrees with 20% chance of showers. Should be nice!

Latest on the injury front… Antonio Brown is back in Pittsburgh for further examination of what has been revealed to be a quad injury. That’s about as much as we know right now.

When you have a storied history like the Steelers it become easy to make comparisons. One such comparison is being made between Jon Bostic and former Steelers’ LB James Farrior. Both were free agent pick-ups and that’s where the comparisons should begin and end for now.  That said, people really like what Bostic is doing in Camp. He’s not only playing well but he’s leading and he’s communicating. Those are also traits of Farrior so I understand the discussion.

Speaking of linebackers, rookie Matthew Thomas continues to impress. There were no questions whatsoever about his skills and abilities during the pre-draft process. Rather, there were issues related to injuries and off-field items that kept him from being drafted. As of right now, Thomas will make this roster.

There are likely to be some decent football players released by the Steelers and the secondary is a prime example. Just look at the cornerback situation. Joe Haden, Artie Burns and Mike Hilton are safe. But then we have Coty Sensabaugh, Brian Allen, Cam Sutton plus Malik Reaves and Deshaun Phillips or are both having solid Training Camps so far. As it usually does, special teams will likely decide those depth positions.

In case you wondering, the Friday night practice was started by Bill Cowher in 1992.

More to come on tonight’s practice tomorrow morning.

You know a great place to go after the Friday night practice??? Taps N’At in Derry of course. It’s just a few miles away and it will have the cold beverages you are looking for!
