SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Under the Lights” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans!

It’s the second Friday of Training Camp and that means the Steelers head over to Latrobe Memorial Stadium for their annual night practice. There’s something unique about seeing the Black and Gold come off school buses for this event which is just one part of what makes it great. If you’re going, take some rain gear. Going to be humid and rain is better than a 50/50 proposition. Either way, enjoy it!

The Steelers will meet with NFL Officials today at 1pm ET to discuss new rules and there’s no question the new helmet rule will be the most widely discussed item. It was called four times last night in the Hall of Fame Game. Look, this is going to suck but players have to stop dropping their heads and have to stop leading with their heads. You tackle with your shoulders and your arms, not the crown of your helmet. For the record, two of the four calls were legit in my opinion.

If you had any questions about the maturity of Le’Veon Bell (and no I’m not talking about his recent strip club video) then look no further than his latest rap tune. I find the fact that he debuted this during Training Camp, when his “teammates” are working their asses off, says a lot about him. It tells me he’s desperate for attention because he isn’t getting it through football. He’s more than free to do as he chooses when he isn’t working on football-related stuff but doing this now is a bad look.

Tweet of the Day… Former Steeler Rob Golden is not shy about his feelings on new rules.

As I noted in ‘Training Camp Tidbits‘ last night, Antonio Brown is back in Pittsburgh being evaluated for what Mike Tomlin calls a “day-to-day” injury. We’ve been told two things; calf injury or quad injury. The good news is that he has plenty of time to get healthy.

My thoughts on Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson are… We saw what we expected. He’s super fast and super athletic but he’s not ready to be the starting QB just yet. His release angle worries me. It’s really low. Doesn’t mean he can’t be a great QB but that’s a concern. He also was sacked three times too. Decision-making will have to get better.

I think Terrell Edmunds is the real deal. There, I said it.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
