Good Monday to you Steelers fans.
You have to give the Pittsburgh Steelers credit; they are being very patient with recently arrested Justin Layne. For a former third round draft pick who hasn’t developed into anything yet, Layne is pretty darn lucky he still has a job. Late last week, Layne was pulled over in Ohio. Besides an expired license he also had a firearm and marijuana. The Steelers have sent guys packing for less but to this point they’ve done no such thing with Layne. Part of the reason the Steelers will draft a cornerback this coming weekend is in part due to his failure to improve and make a splash. The departures of Steven Nelson and Mike Hilton from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are obviously more significant but you get the point. Layne is a young man and young men make mistakes but this is a tough one to swallow. Players are told exactly how to avoid these situations and why but Layne clearly didn’t get the message. If you saw the video of him in the police car then that’s all you really need to know.
Draft Podcast
We’ve got a special show coming up as we’ll be recording when the Steelers select. Of course this all depends on the draft moving at its usual pace in the first round and the Steelers not trading up or down. Either way, it’ll be a lot of fun so tune in!
Tweet of the day… Another gem from the terrific Dave DiCello.
The moon sets above the rotunda at PNC Park this morning in #Pittsburgh, as viewed from the other end of Isabella Street. I had no plans on capturing this composition; I spent the morning chasing the moon around town, and just happened upon this scene. Right place, right time. pic.twitter.com/Y5HmAFsQIS

Whiny Tom Brady
Last week NFL Owners approved of new rules relaxing the jersey numbers some players can wear. This means that defenders like linebackers can now wear lower numbered jerseys and Tom Brady is already complaining about it. He claims it will make for “ugly” football. The argument is that now it won’t be as easy to identify defensive backs from linebackers and vice-versa. God forbid we actually do something that might help the defense. You’re Tom Freaking Brady for crying our loud. You can’t figure who is blitzing because of the number on the jersey then too damn bad. You’ll have watched film all week so if you can’t identify who is who by then…
I Think…
The Steelers are going ‘Defense’ in Round One and as much as it pains me to say that I just have this feeling. First of all, I don’t know that they are really enamored with any of the offensive linemen who will be there at 24 and I just don’t think they’ll go running back in round one. Conversely, there are several defensive players that could fall to them if this Draft goes as “offense heavy” as I think it will. Corners and Linebackers could be plentiful at 24.
