SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Watt Is The Deal?” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans.

Please take a moment to exhale. T.J. Watt has a hamstring strain that is not, I repeat “not,” serious. He will start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform or ‘PUP’ list. This is simply precautionary and should not be made out to be more than it is. Watt has been very durable during his first two seasons missing just one game. If anything, we should find some positive here. With Watt taking a few days or weeks to heal up, this gives other linebackers like Anthony Chickillo, Ola Adeniyi and rookie Sutton Smith an opportunity at more meaningful, training camp snaps. If this injury to Watt lingers for several weeks, then I’ll start to get to concerned. Until then, I’m not sweating it and neither should you.

For all intents and purposes yesterday, there were no arrivals to really speak of. JuJu Smith-Schuster entered the side of the building with little fanfare. James Conner scooted by on an electric scooter and Joe Haden arrived in a Rolls Royce while sporting a Sidney Crosby jersey. The most unusual arrival though belonged to Eli Rogers. He showed up in a semi-truck, dressed in construction gear and carrying what looked to be a barbell. Normally these entrances are reserved for the top players but whose to say Rogers can’t have some fun? All in all is what way more subdued than someone arriving via helicopter.

Tweet of the Day… Hear, Hear Joe Haden!

Mike Tomlin was “pleased” with everyone’s preparation for camp. The conditioning test yielded zero stories we’ve seen in the past about guys not being able to complete it.

Speaking of Tomlin…. Ian did a very data-driven analysis of where the Steelers’ Head Coach ranks with our coaches in the NFL. I chipped in with my thoughts on Tomlin’s extension. Might not be what you think.

Mike Hilton, despite wanting a long-term deal, signed his Exclusive Rights Free Agent deal prior to arriving in Camp yesterday. Hilton will need to show his 2017 form again in order to get the deal he desires.

Joe Haden appears to be working towards an extension with the Steelers. At 30 years old, I’m curious to see exactly how this plays out. One thing you can’t deny is that he loves being in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers will hit the field later today for their first public practice. If you’re there for the very first time…. Get ready for the goosebumps.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
