SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Traveling Man’ Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers fans.

What was it that Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz? “There’s no place like home?” That’s exactly how I’m feeling today. In the last 11 days I’ve driven to St. Louis for five days of Presidents’ Cup Soccer for my son… Then I drove a U-Haul to Aurora, Illinois where we loaded up my daughter… Then drove eight hours to Nashville and got her moved in over this past weekend. In other words, I’m whipped. I’ve spent more time in the Central Time Zone in the last ten days than I have my own! Oh and did I mention the gas prices??? Along the way, I pulled up my ‘classic rock’ playlist and zeroed in on Bob Seger’s ‘Live Bullet’ album which is one of the greatest live recordings in my opinion. When the song ‘Travelin’ Man’ came up, it just seemed all too fitting as I traveled across the Midwest and South. I’ve made the trip across Ohio many, many times heading to Pittsburgh so it was nice to see other parts of the country. What does any of this have to do with the Pittsburgh Steelers? Not really a damn thing. Thought maybe you’d like to see that I do have a life outside of the Black and Gold… Once in awhile.

The Podcast

In case you missed last week’s episode of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc it’s right here for your audio or video enjoyment. We talked about the impact of Larry Ogunjobi’s signing, Chase Claypool betting on himself, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Diontae Johnson, Chris Boswell and there were some epic rants by Ben and Ryan you won’t want to miss. Check it out!!

Tweet of the Day… I stopped in Nashville at Swett’s for some amazing soul food.

‘Snell’ Game

This past April, the Steelers did not draft a running back. They did sign a couple of undrafted free agent rookies, but the fact that they really didn’t pay much attention to the position likely means a couple of things. First and most obvious is that Najee Harris is clearly the bell cow not only at running back but for this entire offense. Secondly, is that Mike Tomlin must like what he sees from Benny Snell. The former Kentucky Wildcat came to OTAs looking slimmer and was reportedly much more nimble than we’re used to seeing. Whether that translates to the field on game day is another question but I’m willing to at least give him a shot. In spot duty as a starter, he’s actually been OK. Let’s hope regardless that Najee is the guy all season long.

Highsmith

Across our country this past weekend it’s been very emotional and intense with the Supreme Court’s decision to end ‘Roe v Wade.’ Alex Highsmith, the Steelers’ OLB, is a deeply religious man. He made no bones about the fact on social media that he supported the decision. This upset many Steelers’ fans who feel differently. Look, we all have beliefs and opinions that are based on many things. We may not agree with each other but don’t get vulgar and offensive because someone sees things differently. Be better people.
