SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Traffic Jam” Edition

Heyward of the Steelers. steelcityblitz.com

Good Monday to you Steelers fans.

The AFC North has suddenly turned into a traffic jam of epic proportions. There is no “great” team this year and there is no team that’s a “gimme” either. After what transpired on Sunday, this division is going to go down to the final week. Yesterday, the Baltimore Ravens lost Lamar Jackson, trailed 24-3 and nearly came back to beat the Cleveland Browns losing 24-22. That loss makes Baltimore 8-5 while the Browns move to 7-6. With the Steelers already having lost on Thursday to sit at 6-6-1, that left the Cincinnati Bengals. They scored 14 unanswered points to force overtime against the 49ers only to lose 26-23. That means they fall to 7-6. With all this said, it’s likely a race to ten wins. After that, it’s going to be anyone’s guess regarding Wild-cards.

The Week Ahead

The Tennessee Titans come to Pittsburgh Sunday fresh off a dominating 20-0 home win over Jacksonville. Tennessee held the Jags to eight yards rushing, sacked Trevor Lawrence three times and forced him into four interceptions. I realize that Jacksonville isn’t exactly a tough team right now but that’s an impressive beat down. Offensively, Derrick Henry is still out so that will help the Steelers’ defense. This game is a must for the Steelers. No other way to put it.

Tweet of the Day… I love social media. Not really, but this is funny.

Cam the Man

Considering the great year he has had, it would be great to get Cam Heyward the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award. Heyward has and always does it the right way. He is a pillar of the Pittsburgh community, has been everything you could want in a Pittsburgh Steeler and is an all-around tremendous human being. Whatever you can do to spread the word would be great. Heyward deserves this honor.

The Week(s) Ahead

Over the weekend I pondered how these next four weeks will impact the team in terms of the players. One thought however that I did not dive into was the future of Kevin Colbert. The General Manager has been working on one year deals for a couple of seasons now and one has to wonder how much longer he will stay with it. My gut feeling is that he will stay through the transition from Ben Roethlisberger to the next QB. I’ll have more thoughts on this later but I’m not sure that’s a good idea.

Pro Bowl

Voting for the 2022 NFL Pro Bowl is now underway. You can vote for all of your favorite Steelers by clicking this link right here. I’m of the opinion that Chris Boswell, Cam Heyward, Diontae Johnson and T.J. Watt should 100% be on their way to this game.
