Good Friday to you Steelers fans.
We now call it the “Practice Squad” but there was a time when it was called the “Taxi Squad.” It was deemed this because like a taxi, players would come and go and go again. Somewhere along the lines the change was made. Fans often dismiss the PS but make no mistake, a good PS can often make the difference between wins and losses simply because of depth. James Harrison will be in the Steelers’ Hall of Honor soon and he knows the PS all too well. As the Steelers shaped their roster this week the guys added to their PS could prove just as vital. A cornerback like Mark Gilbert, who spent time with the Steelers last year is important because of familiarity with the team and system. Carlos Davis had a really nice preseason but was lost in the shuffle of a deep defensive line group. His ability to step in when needed is important. Offensively, Cody White isn’t going to scare anyone at receiver but he’s shown he is capable of filling in with important snaps. The “Taxi Squad” of today is under much different rules than it once was but it remains important.

Why the Mystery?
Mike Tomlin said this week that he’s made his decision on the starting QB but won’t reveal who it is. Many are questioning why he just doesn’t say “Mitchell Trubisky.” After all, that has to be the decision right? The reason there is some mystery is because Mike Tomlin doesn’t care what you or I think about his decision. He also will use every advantage he can no matter how slight. I really don’t understand why people are so up in arms over this.
It’s Too Long!!
I love football. But my love of college football is waning. I watched both Penn State vs Purdue and West Virginia vs Pitt last night. I found myself wondering when these games would finally end. The constant reviews, clock stoppages and commercials are just too much. With an NFL game you pretty much know you’re investing three hours. College football is an absolute crap shoot. It’s gotten so bad you can’t even find the ‘Time of Game’ on the box score any longer.
