SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Game Week’ Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers fans.

Finally. It’s finally the regular season. On Thursday night the LA Rams will host the Buffalo Bills to kick off the 2022 NFL season. Three days later however is when our Pittsburgh Steelers open their campaign in Cincinnati against the reigning division and conference champion Bengals. In other words my friends, it’s officially game week. The biggest question remains whether Mitchell Trubisky or Kenny Pickett will get the start. While I’m quite certain it will be Trubisky, I’m more curious to see how Mike Tomlin handles Mason Rudolph who is unlikely to get a helmet Sunday. The Steelers will be decided underdogs to a Bengals squad that beat them up twice last season with seemingly little effort. Cincinnati has waited a long time for those wins and has waited a long time to bring the Steelers back into their stadium for yet another butt whipping. Whether that happens or not will be discovered soon enough but let’s remember this. The Steelers were big underdogs when they went into Buffalo in week one last year too and we know how that turned out.

The Podcast

This Thursday night we will host our “Season Preview” in which we give our picks for division winners, Wild-cards, conference champions and Super Bowl winners as well. Most importantly, we’ll give you our Steelers’ predictions and explain exactly why we feel the way we do! It’s the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc.

Tweet of the Day…Mike was a good guy but yeah. I feel this tweet.

Random Thoughts…

Ian has said multiple times on the Podcast that he believes that Kenny Pickett will get his first start against the New Orleans Saints. This would follow the Steelers’ bye week and would give the rookie two straight home games to open his career. I think he’s probably right but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it sooner… Jaylen Warren has been a great story this year but Mark Kaboly at The Athletic made a good point. Because Benny Snell is so good on Special Teams, it is possible that Warren doesn’t get a helmet early in the season on game day… All of us need to get on board with this offensive line right now because there aren’t going to be changes from moves made by Omar Khan. In other words, unless this unit comes together, it’s going to look an awful lot like last season… Don’t be surprised if Chris Boswell leads the NFL in field goal attempts this year. I can see the defense getting turnovers and creating short fields only to see the offense sputter. I really hope I’m wrong about that… Speaking of Boswell, congrats to him and his soon to be wife as they announced their intentions to get married over the weekend.
