SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Supplemental” Edition

Good Wednesday to you fine Steelers’ Fans our there!

Today is the annual NFL Supplemental Draft which in most years is about as exciting as watching the Browns play but every so often there’s a player who comes along and ‘intrigues’ several teams. This year that guy is a cornerback from Western Michigan named Sam Beal. He was ruled ineligible for the 2018 season and therefore threw his hat into the ring. Early evaluation of the young man for the 2019 NFL Draft had him as a solid second round selection. Chances are good that some team will grab him but ‘when’ is the most important thing. Should a team use a selection on him that means it will lose that corresponding pick in the next draft.

How does this thing work? It’s essentially a silent auction. All teams submit their selections ahead of time. If they aren’t interested in anyone then they submit a blank for the most part. Let’s say the Steelers wanted Beal. They would have to enter the round they would select him in and if there are no other teams that select him ahead of them? Then he becomes a Steeler. This was only an example. I have zero expectations that they’ll pursue any of the five guys available. Players like Terrelle Pryor and Josh Gordon were selected in previous supplemental drafts.

There are five players eligible this year including a running back from Grand Valley State (MI) named Martayveus Carter. Ya, you read that right. For all of you who could never say Martavis Bryant’s name correctly this was the most often incorrect pronunciation.

Tweet of the Day… Steelers’ Rookie Tackle Chuks Okorafor isn’t thrilled with EA Sports. LoL.

With Le’Veon Bell less than a week away from being forced to play under the Franchise Tag again, Ben took a look at the situation.

Our SCB Training Camp Previews begin tomorrow and we’ll have one every day until Camp starts.

Former Steelers’ defensive back Ron Johnson passed away this week at the age of 62. He won two Super Bowls with the Steelers.

I really hope that these allegations against Bills’ running back LeSean McCoy are false. McCoy’s ex-girlfriend was reportedly beaten at a residence of his in Georgia during a robbery. An Instagram post claims it was McCoy that did it. McCoy claims to have nothing to do it and has been in Miami training for the upcoming season. If it turns out he did this, his career is over. Let us remember he is innocent until proven guilty in this ‘rush to judgment’ world of ours. Separate from all of this… this woman was savagely beaten and I can only hope she fully recovers.

Antonio Brown is continuing his bus tour which is clearly sponsored by Nike among others. If you thought the old Madden Cruiser was nice…. This ride is REALLY nice.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
