SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Pro Day Carousel” Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.

After seeing Kenny Pickett and Malik Willis the last two days, the Pittsburgh Steelers are now off to Oxford, Mississippi. The ‘Pro Day Carousel will roll into see Matt Corral, the third straight QB to have their attention with Cincinnati’s Desmond Ridder on tap for Thursday. I wrote last night that I thoroughly believe Willis is their guy if they want a QB in this draft. While he doesn’t possess the experience of Pickett or Ridder, his upside is by far better than anyone else. What’s curious however is to see how the Steelers approach the position. Mason Rudolph is clearly not their guy. If a team suddenly finds itself in need of a player will the Steelers deal him? Josh Dobbs remains a free agent and Dwayne Haskins will return but what to expect from him remains a mystery. With little doubt that Willis and Pickett go off the board ahead of them, what is the Steelers’ approach in round one and more specifically, round two? I think there’s a very good chance that Corral could still be there and North Carolina’s Sam Howell will probably be there are well. How would you feel about taking a flyer on one of those guys at 52? Worth the chance to catch lighting in a bottle? Don’t risk it and choose another position? Heck, do the Steelers even know yet? Let me answer that last question for you. “Not yet.”

Tweet of the Day… Apparently I hit a home run with this one.

Daniels

I’m starting to get the feeling that newly acquired offensive lineman James Daniels will be playing center rather than guard. He’s got a ton of experience there having played there two years at Iowa and making numerous starts there for the Bears. The Steelers have been down this road before with guards and centers. Dermontti Dawson and Jeff Hartings come to mind… But this could also be a signal that guard will be a much bigger target in the first or second round than we thought. Kenyon Green of Texas A&M or Zion Johnson of Boston College could both be there at 20. Something to consider I suppose.

Edmunds

Much like JuJu Smith-Schuster found out last season, Terrell Edmunds is finding out that the market for his services isn’t as desirable as he hoped. This may ultimately benefit the Steelers who could keep him around for a lot less money than they may have thought. Edmunds never became the first round pick they envisioned but he improved every year and is extremely durable. He has experience in the defense and gives you everything he has. Re-signing him would not be the worst thing in the world.

Mayfield

No. The Steelers are not interested. Move along.
