SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Pro Bowl Joke” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans.

I think most of you know that it’s a nice honor to be selected to the NFL Pro Bowl. I also think most of you know that many guys really aren’t all that interested in playing in the game. Fears of injury being the most common reason for their lack of interest… Both Maurkice Pouncey and David DeCastro have already decided they will not be playing in Orlando the week before the Super Bowl. Personally, I’m fine with this because these two are veterans who really don’t need to risk playing. Pouncey missed the last couple of weeks with an injury and as far as DeCastro I’m not really sure what his reasoning is but the fact is clear here. These All-Star games have lost their luster. The National Hockey League is dealing with a number of top players choosing not to play and the NBA has had many top stars choose to not participate in a lot of the activities. I guess if I were a kid again I’d be disappointed by this but in my advanced age I get it.

The Divisional Playoffs

A week ago, the road teams won three of four and had Buffalo not coughed up their 16-0 lead it would have been all four. Will this week be different? I believe it will as I’m picking three of four home teams this weekend. Give me the Niners over the Vikings. I’ll take the Chiefs over the Texans and I’ll grudgingly take the Ravens over Tennessee. My only road winner will be Seattle. I’m taking them because I’m just not convinced Aaron Rodgers can make the throws he needs to. His accuracy has been off most of the season and I also think Russell Wilson will cause fits for the Packers’ D.

Tweet of the Day… Ya this is fairly common Steve. Don’t worry, he’ll come back around.

Good Stuff From Labs Here.

Long-time Steelers Digest and Steelers.com editor Bob Labriola makes some really good points here in the piece I’m linking. Specifically is the discussion about backup quarterbacks. Many fans were frustrated the Steelers didn’t have a more veteran option to replace Big Ben. Labs’ explanation here is really good and should make some sense to you.

Some Key 2020 Dates

The NFL has released the calendar of major events for 2020 and here’s some that you should definitely pay attention to… The NFL Combine is Feb. 24th thru March 2nd… Feb. 25th is when teams may ‘Franchise’ players… Mar. 10th is last day to Franchise or Transition Tag players… Mar. 18th is officially the first day of the 2020 League year/Free agency begins… Apr 23-25 is the NFL Draft in Las Vegas.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
