SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “President Speaks” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Morning Steelers’ Fans. Let’s go!

Pittsburgh Steelers’ team President Art Rooney II made his first comments of the offseason yesterday and he’ll continue his media junket today as well. ARII’s comments included… wanting to get both Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell long-term deals… believing Ben Roethlisberger will return… concerns about the return of Martavis Bryant… concerns about the future of Ladarius Green… the drafting a QB is likely… and the need for a more productive pass rush.

Let me give you my analysis. Nothing he said here is newsworthy. The fact that so many fans were tweeting their excitement over the comments, especially those about Bell and Brown is kind of stunning. Did fans expect him to say they were open to trading Brown? Did they expect to hear the team didn’t want a deal for Bell? ARII wasn’t going to say a damn thing that would create significant talking points. All of these issues are fluid and there are several months before we’ll know just where all of these sentiments really fall.

I will retweet just about anything I see from Steelers’ players but there is an exception.  I could not in any sound mind retweet or like an Instagram post with Jerome Bettis posing with Ray Lewis. Sorry. It ain’t happenin.’

Tweet of the Day… Couldn’t agree more Vince! LoL

Personally I thought David DeCastro had a much better year in 2015 than in this past season. I did think he got better and better as the season wore on however and was probably worthy of his Pro Bowl selection. That said, I think he comes back looking to have a more consistent season in 2017.

I picture Ladarius Green as a fragile, new doll sitting on the edge of the shelf. It’s still quite beautiful but it’s going to fall and break before we ever really get to enjoy it. I really believe tight end has to be in play in this draft. While O.J. Howard would be a tremendous ‘get,’ I don’t see anyway he’s there at 30. The good news is that there are some really good tight ends in this draft.

I get questions a lot about the Steelers possibly trading up or down in the first round. Keep in mind the Steelers very seldom do either. They are more apt to go up and get a player than they are to drop down. That said, because this draft is so deep in areas of need for the Steelers nothing would surprise me.

So glad this month is over…

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
