SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “One Fail, All Fail” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Friday to you Steelers fans.

There’s no Head Coach in Pro Football that loves a good cliche quite like our Mike Tomlin. While those can sometimes get old or even humorous, Tomlin was quite blunt and to the point with his message to his Steelers’ players yesterday about dealing with COVID-19. He told them “If one of you fails then we all fail” and he’s absolutely right. The NFL has had a decided advantage in all of this by being able to see what MLB, the NBA and the NHL have been doing. There is no magic bullet here other than doing everything you can as an individual player to keep yourself healthy and that’s what Tomlin is demanding. If even one guy makes the choice to go out to a bar or restaurant or other public place where social distancing isn’t taking place then he is putting the entire team at risk. To get right to the heart of this is to say that one guy’s poor choice could entirely sink the postseason and Super Bowl hopes of the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s what Tomlin is talking about and that’s how serious this really is.

The Podcast

Last nite we recorded Episode 181 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc. We covered everything from Training Camp and the Reserve/COVID-19 list to our favorite stadiums and how Matt Canada fits with the Steelers. Tune in for great takes, opinions and laughs.

Tweet of the Day… So let’s discuss Dane’s tweet below it.

None of us should be upset with any player who chooses to kneel or stand. It’s the beautiful thing about our country! We have a right to do either. There is no law or amendment that says “one must stand.” It is a custom we have practiced for many, many years. Whether it be Stephon Tuitt, Ben Roethlisberger, T.J. Watt or Joe Haden, whatever they choose to do should not affect on how we feel about them as people or players.

On Field Action

This first phase was supposed to be about COVID-19 testing, physicals and virtual meetings but the players weren’t having it. Many players, especially the skill players got on the grass of Heinz Field. There was running and throwing and catching and quite frankly it looked like guys were thoroughly enjoying their time together. And why wouldn’t they? This has been a long time coming.

Check Out Our New Joe Haden Tee

Our friends at DC4L Custom Tees came up with this great new design honoring the words of Steelers’ CB Joe Haden. Earlier this week Haden commented on a Twitter post about the defense by simply saying “We Make Plays.” Well, here you go!

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
