SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “New Season Begins Now” Edition

Good Gameday to you Steelers’ fans.

Tonight begins a new season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. While they can’t erase their 2-4 start they can put that behind them with success in their second half of the season. With the bye behind them, the Steelers begin ten straight weeks of play. The first of three straight home games begins with the winless Miami Dolphins and you can read my game preview right here. While the Steelers must replace Stephon Tuitt, the rest of the team is overall pretty healthy.

Yesterday in the AFC

In the North, Cincinnati fell to 0-8 losing to the Rams in London. The Browns turned the ball over on three straight offensive plays leading to 17 points for the Patriots. That was more than enough as New England won 27-13. Everyone in the AFC South won yesterday while Buffalo and the Jets lost in the East. Everyone in the AFC West lost except the Chargers who won on yet another missed field goal by a Chicago kicker. What does it all mean? Quite simply, I don’t see anyone (barring serious injury) knocking off New England for the one seed.

Tweet of the Day… It’s Gameday people!

McDonald’s Trucking

One guy that has been sorely absent this season has been Vance McDonald. Part of that has been due to injury and part of that has been due to the lack of Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback. That said, what this offense could really use is a big game from him. I don’t necessarily need to see him send a poor defensive back into retirement with a stiff arm (although I would like it) but I’d like to see him get five or six receptions and be able to move the sticks. If he can do that it will open up things for other receivers.

A Surprise Addition to the Injury Report

LB Ulysees Gilbert was added to the game status report as “questionable” on Saturday with a back issue. This was a surprise because he hadn’t appeared on the injury report all week. If he can’t go, it’s a serious blow to the special teams’ units where he plays a majority of the snaps. The last thing the Steelers need is special teams breakdowns against a winless opponent.

I’ve Got a Feeling…

That Mason Rudolph has two TD passes tonight and one is to JuJu Smith-Schuster… That Minkah Fitzpatrick gets a big turnover against his former team… That Dolphins running back Kenyon Drake plays a very good game because it’s now widely reported that he’s on the trading block… That James Conner has more than 20 touches tonight… That the Steelers will win! [UPDATE]: Kenyon Drake has reportedly been traded to the Arizona Cardinals.

Have a great Monday Steeler Nation!
