SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “New Kids on the Block” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans.

This past weekend we found that we were in fact, not without football as the new AAF started up. I don’t knock new leagues for a couple of reasons. First, they give guys opportunities to prove they can play. Look what the XFL did for Tommy Maddox… Secondly, I see these new leagues as ways to give the NFL things to think about. If the AAF offers even one thing that can make the NFL better then I’m all for it. Is the level of competition as good? Of course not. That’s like asking if Double A baseball is as good as the big leagues but it is still football. If you think it will just fade away ( and it very well could) it won’t anytime soon. The ratings were actually better than a competing NBA game. Maybe that’s something and maybe it isn’t but it’s worth noting. Also worth noting is that former Steeler Terence Garvin recorded the new league’s first ever interception. Congrats to him!

As many of you know we are in the midst of our Draft Profiles right now and one Facebook comment caught my attention. A couple of our profiles so far have been on receivers which led a reader to scream “we don’t need receivers! We need players on defense!” While I agree we need some help on D we must also understand the Steelers almost always take a receiver somewhere in the draft and oh by the way, we could very well have a glaring hole if and when Antonio Brown is sent packing.

Tweet of the Day… Speaking of Brown. Our Ben Anderson made me laugh when he suggested AB looked like Liberace at the Grammy’s last night. Don’t know who Liberace was kids? Google him.

By the way, what is AB saying here? Seriously, I don’t know. Wait… Wait… Being told this has to do with a rap song. Never mind.

In case you missed it the Steelers signed two players last week. Linebacker Robert Spillane and Running Back Malik Williams. Spillane had a terrific career at my alma mater Western Michigan. He helped lead the Broncos to the Cotton Bowl. Sadly, both of these players will likely be gone sometime this summer. That’s just how it works in the NFL.

If the Steelers do in fact use the Transition tag on Le’Veon Bell in hopes that they’ll be able to trade him then I really don’t like the strategy. The chances of this happening are remote. Not impossible but just not likely. I’d rather just part ways and take the comp pick.

Not sure I understand the debate over Chris Boswell. If he really was hurt all of last season then doesn’t that explain his struggles? If healthy, he should be back to normal right? I guess if the Steelers do move on from him it will tell us more than we actually knew.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!

Glad to see you mention the AAF, while the players may not be rate as good as the NFL, I sure as hell rate the Referees far above the NFL. Is the NFL watching????
