Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.
With all of the free agency and draft talk going on around the club, the discussion about who the next general manager will be has taken a back seat. The Steelers interviewed 16 candidates that we know of but I’m ready to go ahead and say we already know how this is going to shake out. If I were hiring a person to replace Kevin Colbert, I would want that person to be in Colbert’s hip pocket as often as possible through the pre-draft process. Well, here we are about two weeks out from the draft and the Steelers have yet to name his successor. Therefore, it must be a given isn’t that Brandon Hunt has to be the choice? The head of the Steelers’ Scouting Department has been on the prospect trail a lot more than Omar Khan has and certainly more than any of the other candidates. I still believe the team would prefer to have Hunt handle the day-to-day personnel side of things while Khan would be in charge of the financial side. Ultimately, I think that’s how it will shake out. There is one other ‘possible’ avenue here. If Art Rooney II is considering someone they interviewed from the outside, then perhaps he may feel that person would be better off coming in with fresh ideas rather than following the exact same paradigm of Colbert. I don’t necessarily agree with that track, but it remains possible. All in all I have to believe this is Hunt’s job and it’s a matter of time before he’s named to it.

We’ll be recording episode 265 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc a night early due to some travel conflicts with yours truly on Thursday. We will focus on the defensive side of the ball by starting on the defensive line before moving our way to the Edge and inside linebackers. We will also discuss the tragic passing of Dwayne Haskins. From the personal side to the business side, we’ll cover this as well as we can.

So if I'm Matt Rhule and my tenure with the Panthers is hanging by a thread, wouldn't I take Pickett over any other QB? He may not have the highest ceiling but he's the most ready to play right away. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

A Concern…
The shocking death of Dwayne Haskins has many facets to it and one of those is the concern we should have for others. First, is the person who struck Dwayne. This was an individual going about their business on an early morning. I hope this person is doing OK. Taking a life whether totally accidental or not is traumatic. Secondly, are all of those Steelers who were with Dwayne just hours before his passing. These guys worked out together, laughed together and then shared some social time together and in an instant their teammate and friend was gone. I’m sure the Steelers have already reached out to the players but I felt it needed to be said.
