SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Hurry Up and Wait” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Thursday and Happy Draft Day 2020 Steelers’ fans.

Today reminds me very much of Christmas Eve day as a kid. We all knew what was coming, we were really excited for it, but we knew it was going to be a really long day. With our Steelers not having a first round pick this year it’s going to be a long day. It won’t be nearly as stressful I can say that much however. But still, this feeling of “hurry up and wait” is already weighing on me. We here at SCB put out a lot content again in preparation for the Draft but it’s never enough. It’s kinda like me at an all you can eat buffet, there’s just never enough! Regardless, Draft Day is here and considering the current environment in our world today I couldn’t be more excited.

The Podcast

In case you missed it, we recorded episode 171 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing, Inc. on Tuesday night. We covered the defensive prospects the Steelers may be interested in. It’s a bevy of great info and a lot of fun for us to do!

Tweet of the Day… The bigger question I have here is what’s with the soul patch Aaron??

Explaining My Mock

For those who haven’t seen it yet, here is my final Steelers mock draft. A couple of things I always feel necessary to point out are these… 1. I mock based on what I think the Steelers will do, not what I would do. 2. I try to hit areas of need knowing that sometimes the order of those will be far different than what the Steelers probably have. 3. It’s literally impossible to get this right especially at 49 because they are so million things that can unexpectedly happen in front of them.

JuJu…

I honestly do not know what has gotten into this group of people who suddenly believe the Steelers should part ways with JuJu Smith-Schuster. That said, let me take their view for a moment. Without Antonio Brown in 2019, JuJu struggled. He was also without Ben Roethlisberger and he dealt with nagging injuries as well. Perhaps this is the JuJu we can expect without AB so let’s trade him while we can get some high draft collateral for him right? Based on my research, there are teams you might be able to get a first round draft pick from. So, we have Diontae Johnson and James Washington to trade JuJu for a first rounder and draft another WR. OK, I think that’s the basis of what these folks are saying. I would agree with their sentiments IF… Big Ben had played all season… JuJu hadn’t been injured on and off all season… And there was enough statistical evidence to prove he can’t succeed without AB. Let’s give this young man a chance shall we? If he comes back in 2020 and struggles again? Then I guess we move on but at the very least he deserves an opportunity to bounce back. Oh, and if even if you draft a WR to replace him there’s no guarantee he works out.

The Look of the Draft

Tonight begins three days of a really unique experience as the Draft is literally being conducted from the homes of head coaches and general managers. Kids have been told to stay off of their devices and in many cases they will be helping their fathers by crossing off names and writing who is drafted and who isn’t. What a strange world we live in these days.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
