SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Hangover” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers fans.

It may be Valentine’s Day but it’s also National Football Hangover Day. In my world, that’s much more important. For the next seven months or so we will be without the National Football League. Oh sure, there’s the Combine, Pro Days, Free Agency, the Draft, Mini-Camps and Training Camps but there’s nothing like the games. Anyway, congratulations to the LA Rams on their 23-20 win over Cincinnati. Won’t go down as one of the better Super Bowls of all-time but it gave us some good moments and took us into the final minute which is all that you can ask if you have no rooting interest. Good for Aaron Donald, a guy incredibly deserving of a ring, and good for Matthew Stafford too, I guess. He forced his way out of Detroit and got everything he wanted. He’s a good guy, don’t get me wrong, it just seems odd to me is all. As for the Bengals, what happened last night does in some cases go back to the Draft in April of last year. They chose firepower over  protection. They nearly pulled it off too but in the end their inability to protect Joe Burrow is what cost them. I thought the Bengals would win a game very similarly to what the final score indicated but I’m glad I was wrong. Fans in both Cincinnati AND Cleveland are miserable today (OBJ gets a ring) and that’s fine with me.

Tweet of the Day… Our good friend Jas who lives in Cincy for the win last night. She was dreading the thought of being a Steelers’ fan there following a SB win.

The Podcast

In case you missed it… Episode 255 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc is here for your enjoyment. We covered the latest on the GM search, Teryl Austin’s rise to defensive coordinator, who will be the O-Line Coach and much more.

Speaking of the GM Search…

The Steelers added yet another name to their list when they interviewed Tampa Bay VP of Personnel John Spytek. I am of the opinion that the Steelers are no longer just doing “due diligence.” I think they are actively searching for someone who may fit a few more boxes than they previously thought they were needing. With Kevin Colbert scheduled to leave his post after the Draft, it would behoove the Steelers to get someone in place soon to start learning the ropes.

Watt’s Up

T.J. Watt finally secured that Defensive Player of the Year Award he has been so close to earning in recent years. There had been some discussion leading up to it that rookie Micah Parsons could steal it and while the Defensive ROOKIE of the Year was formidable, it wasn’t that close. Watt received 42 of 50 possible votes. While one could suggest his tying the sack record was the major reason why, one can’t look away from how he changes what offenses do either. He’s one of the rare players where every time an offense game-plans it has to account for him on every, single play.
