SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Giving Back” Edition

It’s Monday. But you already know that so let’s get to the more important stuff.

This past weekend, the Pittsburgh Steelers and a who’s who of players hosted three different events. The Steelers held their Youth Football Camp which had appearances by Antonio Brown, Mike Mitchell, Javon Hargrave and many more. Brown would later host his “Antonio Brown and Friends” softball game which again featured many players ranging from James Harrison to Josh Dobbs. Lastly, Ben Roethlisberger held his annual football camp on Father’s Day at the Steelers’ facility. While much of the setup and behind the scenes action is done many countless volunteers, the players still enjoy themselves and for the most part get involved. This was a great way to start the summer “dead period.”

I’m not going to get into specifics until I’m given the go-ahead to do so but we’ve been told the Steelers and Alejandro Villanueva may be as much as $13 million apart on a contract. While I believe Villanueva’s agent is doing ‘due diligence,’ I think he has to recognize he’s in a unique situation. Stay tuned.

The Steelers are in somewhat unusual waters this summer with Villanueva’s issues along with Le’Veon Bell and Stephon Tuitt. I think anyone that tells you who gets done first is doing nothing more than guessing. What I can say I think the Steelers’ priorities are different than what most fans’ are.

Tweet of the Day…

We have a built in cautionary tale when it comes to expecting too much from our rookie outside linebacker T.J. Watt. It wasn’t that long ago that everyone had tremendously high hopes and expectations for Jarvis Jones. My point? There’s a lot of hype about Watt and while it’s OK to have high hopes, just keep some perspective.

I’m hearing free agent running back Knile Davis has dropped some weight and looked very impressive during OTAs and mini-camp. The Steelers clearly like their running backs at certain weights as they did something similar with Le’Veon Bell.

Behind the scenes here at SCB we are working on a website re-design. We’re hoping to have it done soon and hope that you enjoy the new layout!

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
