SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Four More to Go” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans.

Four weeks from tonight the Pittsburgh Steelers will be on the clock in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. If you know who they are drafting in round one then I believe you’re full of crap. At this point, the Steelers don’t even know who it will be. Do they have it narrowed down? Yes they do but with so many unpredictable things likely to happen in front of them at 20, they have to be prepared. Those two linebackers could be gone. The top two or three corners could be gone and so too could the top tight ends or receivers. That in and of itself is part the uncertainty. By this time the Steelers have already scouted and/or spoken to over 100 potential prospects. Which of those will it be? Good luck trying to figure it out.

Wannabe analyst and former Lions’ backup Dan Orlovsky says JuJu Smith-Schuster is wise to support Ben Roethlisberger and claims getting close to him is the best way to earn that big payday on his second contract. Orlovsky may in fact be correct but I’m actually hoping he’s wrong. What I’m hoping is that JuJu is actually good person who wants the best for himself and the best for his team. I’m hoping that JuJu has seen what big contracts, ego and jealousy can do to a player. I’m hoping that JuJu never changes and continues to be the positive, stand-up young man we’ve seen to this point in his career. And why wouldn’t JuJu want to be close to his quarterback? Each relies heavily on the other for team and individual success. Unfortunately what Orlovsky is doing is trying create another negative Steelers’ narrative.

Tweet of the Day… Joe Haden is very passionate about the Special Olympics and tweeted his disgust over the potential cuts to that program. So someone just had to reply with the typical, ignorant response. Apparently football players aren’t allowed to have opinions. I may dislike Le’Veon Bell’s rap music but he’s free to do it. They can have lives away from the game just like you and I have passions away from our work.

Here’s Greg’s latest Prospect Profile… Kentucky Safety Mike Edwards.

Here’s a clue as to what the Steelers will be looking for in round one. There’s a darn good chance he’ll be from a power five conference. The Steelers have not selected a player in the first round from outside the Power 5 since Ben Roethlisberger in 2004. Something else to consider as well is this… Of those 14 Power 5 guys only one has come from the Big 12 (Evander Hood) and one from the Pac-12 (David DeCastro). The other were from the Big Ten (5), ACC (4) and SEC (3).

Also, the Steelers have drafted six straight defensive players in the first round.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
