Good Friday to you Steelers fans.
I’m going to assume, something we really shouldn’t ever do, that you know about Sherlock Holmes. The British detective and his sidekick Watson, would solve mysteries. Holmes was fond of saying “Elementary my dear Watson” when something was solved and so I’m taking some liberties with that today. Houston quarterback Deshaun Watson is not coming to Pittsburgh. I’m sorry to break that to you but it’s quite “elementary.” Watson is facing as many as 23 different allegations of sexual assault. Let’s assume that half of these are untrue. That still leaves 11 that potentially are true. Do you honestly believe the Steelers would trade multiple first round picks and potentially players for a guy who may never even see the field? Even if this thing goes as well as it possibly could for Watson there is still the likelihood that Roger Goodell will have to suspend him for a period of time. Look, I get it. He’s a special talent that I’d love to have as my quarterback but you are essentially selling your future for him. And let’s also remember there are numerous areas this team needs serious upgrades to, not just at QB. Regardless, this is not happening.

Last night we did TWO, count’em, TWO episodes of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc. The first, episode 259, is my interview with our Draft Contributor Derrick Bell. Derrick also works for SI.com and is an up and coming draft guru who does awesome work. He was at the Combine last week and has some great insights on Steelers’ targets. Episode 260 is our more regular show where we discussed the QB movement in the league and how it may affect the Steelers plans. We talked about a whole lot more and had some adult beverages too!

Free Agency
We are now less than a week away from the new league year beginning and that will of course bring with it the traditional “Why didn’t we sign that guy?” with it. I suspect right now the Steelers will use their unusually huge surplus of cap space to bring in free agents on the O-Line, at cornerback, at wide receiver and a linebacker. Which spot gets more money I cannot say but right now, that’s my gut feeling on where things go. Just please, please, please don’t start freaking out if they haven’t signed anyone in the first five minutes of free agency. Never mind. I know many of you will anyway.
