SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Do or Do Not” Edition

Good Gameday Monday to you Steelers’ Fans!

In the immortal words of Jedi Master Yoda, the Pittsburgh Steelers must ‘Do or do not‘ tonight as ‘trying’ will get them absolutely nowhere. Pittsburgh was given a gift of sorts when Cleveland went into Baltimore yesterday and hammered to formerly unbeaten Ravens who come to Heinz Field next week. With a win tonight and a win next week, the Steelers will find themselves right back in the think of the AFC North race. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Tonight is no gimme. The Cincinnati Bengals come in also needing a win and there will be no shortage of big plays and all out trickery to get it done. I published my preview of tonight’s game yesterday and you can get the full story right here. Someone is going to leave Heinz Field tonight feeling better about themselves while someone else will likely be planning ahead to 2020.

Tight End Trouble

There is every chance the Steelers only have two tight ends dressed for this evening’s game against the Bengals. One will be rookie Zach Gentry and the other will be newly acquired Nick Vannett who has been in Pittsburgh less than a week. Vance McDonald was listed as doubtful yesterday which is typically code word for “He isn’t playing.” I’m going to go ahead and assume the Steelers will use a lot of four wide receiver sets and when they do use heavy packages Zach Banner will be brought in as the extra tight end. I’m told Vannett is a quick study so in this case I sure hope so.

Tweet of the Day… Congrats to these four on the honor!

Browns Whip Ravens, Thoughts…..

One of two things is potentially true. The Ravens are not as good as we assumed they were. With wins over Miami (0-4) and Arizona (0-3-1) they now have losses to Kansas City (4-0) and the Browns (2-2). Or….. The Browns are much better than we thought they were. They have wins over the NYJ (0-3) and the 2-2 Ravens while they have lost two home games to Tennessee and the LA Rams. What I can tell you is that running on the Ravens is possible. Cleveland does not possess a really good offensive line and still pummeled the Ravens’ front seven. Cleveland also found lots of open areas for their receivers not named Odell Beckham, Jr to roam. Jarvis Landry and Ricky Seals-Jones both found lots of room to work in the Ravens’ secondary. My conclusion is that Baltimore is not as good as we assumed. Cleveland has a stretch of at San Francisco, home against Seattle and at New England which should prove their mettle.

Just Get It Done

I don’t care what it looks like tonight. Whether it’s 30-0 or 3-0, the Steelers just need to find a way to win. The confidence boost a victory can bring is essential to the long term psyche of this team so please guys, just get it done.

Have a great day Steelers Nation.
