SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Divider” Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers’ Fans!

There’s a decent chance that by the time you read this that Le’Veon Bell will already have reported to the Steelers. There’s also a good chance he will be posting to Instagram from somewhere in Florida or Southern California too. Because NFL teams install their Sunday gameplans on Wednesdays, I believe he will show today. Now where this narrative changes is if he really is intent on playing the minimum amount of games possible. He would do this in an effort to minimize the injury risk because he knows a big payday awaits next offseason. Whatever comes of this Bell has shown that he as divisive as any politician ever could be. He’s completely divided Steelers’ fans (not evenly mind you) to a point that I don’t know I’ve ever seen before. As I’ve stated previously, his success on the field means success for our Steelers. I will cheer that fact but I will also look forward to the day when Bell is no longer dividing the fan base and creating unnecessary drama.

Terry Bradshaw will always be my favorite Steeler. He’s part of why I fell in love with the Black and Gold. The appeal of Bradshaw is also because he is imperfect. He has anxiety and depression and is an all-around goof ball. All of this said, he often says things I don’t agree with and that’s part of the charm. I think he’s dead wrong sometimes but it doesn’t mean he still isn’t my favorite.

Tweet of the Day… This looks ridiculously refreshing!!

NEW ERA CAP ANNOUNCES AMBASSADORS FOR 2018 NFL SEASON

New Era Merges The World of Sports, Music and Lifestyle For This Year’s Ambassador Line-Up

BUFFALO, NY (September 4, 2018) – Today, New Era Cap Co. Inc., the official on field cap of the NFL, rolls out a new line-up of ambassadors for the 2018 NFL Season. These ambassadors will be featured in New Era creative campaigns for the brand’s NFL line of products. This year’s line-up includes NFL athletes Dak Prescott, Sterling Shepard, Jimmy Garoppolo, Ju Ju Smith Schuster, and Jamal Adams, musician Kane Brown and model Victoria Brito to create a group that intersects sports, music and lifestyle. “This year, New Era sought a diverse group of athletes and artists to represent our 2018 NFL product collection,” said Ryan DiNunzio, Director of Football for New Era Cap. “This group pushes boundaries both on and off the football field aligning with our continued efforts to push the boundaries of sports and style with every NFL cap we create.” This year’s ambassador line-up features familiar names including Dak Prescott and Sterling Shepard who New Era worked with last year. Prescott and Shepard have continued to showcase their professionalism both on and off the field, making them ideal ambassadors for New Era Football. The company has also added Jimmy Garoppolo, Ju Ju Smith Schuster and Jamal Adams, three young players who are energizing the fan bases in their respective markets.  For the first time ever, New Era has partnered with a country music artist for an NFL campaign, Kane Brown. A record-breaking multi-platinum country artist, Brown is a rising star who is also an avid fan of the NFL and New Era. Rounding out this year’s ambassador group is Victoria Brito, a model who embraces inclusion and diversity, core pillars of the New Era brand. New Era’s 2018 NFL Season Campaign is titled “Attack and Defend” and is supported by a comprehensive marketing plan that includes new creative, video content, a social media campaign, paid media and the aforementioned ambassadors. The campaign kicked off with the introduction of the 2018 Sideline Collection which features caps for both home and away games. Creative can be seen in-store at headwear and sporting goods retailers globally. Furthermore, original video content featuring the ambassadors will be released throughout the season. This content will be showcased on New Era’s social channels and ecommerce site. Beginning today, these ambassadors will serve as extensions of the New Era Football brand helping to tell the story behind these caps both on and off the field. Fans can keep an eye out for social content from these ambassadors as well as appearances in their local markets. I’m the furthest thing from a salary cap expert but I’ve seen people in the last 24 hours who I really thought knew better suggesting the Steelers were making contract changes to current players in order to make some ‘major signing.’ The Steelers have roughly five million in cap space which isn’t a ton and furthermore, who in the heck is out there that would be a ‘major signing?’ With only three outside linebackers currently on the roster it would seem that’s the direction they’re heading. Although I wouldn’t rule out tight end either.

We will be hitting you hard with all of our Steelers’ and NFL Previews this week! Get ready!!

The Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast 90 presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh will record tonight. Our guest will be former Browns101 editor Jared Luginbill. He’ll gives us the view from the Browns’ side heading into the opener on Sunday.

Not surprisingly Mike Tomlin had little to say about when Bell will arrive at his weekly press conference… “I hadn’t thought about it,” Tomlin said. “We’ll see. When he gets here that’s when we’ll start quantifying all Le’Veon Bell-related things. We’ll weigh all of those things at the appropriate time.” (quote courtesy post-gazette.com) I get the feeling that Tomlin is much less concerned with Bell’s absence this year than he was last year.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
