SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Corner Question” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans!

One of the great things about having the crew we do here at SCB is that we constantly talk and bounce ideas off of each other. Some come to fruition while others fade away like an Avenger who’s just met Thanos. One such topic was about cornerbacks. The Steelers have already brought in Steven Nelson who will more than likely lock down the corner opposite Joe Haden. There’s a high probability that both Devin White and Devin Bush will be gone too early for Kevin Colbert to even consider trading up for them. That means at 20 cornerback comes back into play. There are two things to consider. Mike Hilton wants a long term deal and Joe Haden is not getting any younger or any less expensive. Now first off, you don’t draft a slot corner in the first round but that doesn’t mean you don’t draft a corner at 20. If that player develops rapidly you can always slide Steven Nelson into the slot should the Steelers move from Hilton. There are many, many steps to this formula but thinking outside the box is something you have to do. Currently, I see no way that Steven Nelson doesn’t remain on the boundary for the coming year or two but should a corner be the selection at 20 there will be options and there will likely be questions moving forward.

One of those corners I’m talking about is Byron Murphy of Washington. The Huskies will have their Pro Day today and despite some short arms and small hands Murphy can flat out play the position. The Steelers will also have an eye on safety Taylor Rapp as well.

Tweet of the Day… We may be a Steelers’ site primarily but we want all of the city’s teams to do well. It’s Home Opening Day for the Buccos!

In case you missed our weekend version of the SCB Steelers Podcast 122 presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh here it is for your listening enjoyment.

Yes I’m aware it’s April Fools Day. No you won’t be getting some lame attempt at messing with you.

Here’s my Prospect Profile of Notre Dame CB Julian Love.

Here are my thoughts on Ben Roethlisberger no longer doing his radio show on 93.7… First of all, Big Ben has far more to lose by doing it than anything he can gain. Every single word he says, especially now, is going to be over-analyzed like crazy. Regardless of what he says it will be taken out of context and it will be twisted to fit the ‘anti-Ben’ agenda. I think it also sends a message to his teammates that he realizes it created some issues last year and if he isn’t doing it then he’s committed to keeping things in-house. I’m in favor of this if you couldn’t tell.

Thanks to everyone who passed along birthday wishes to me yesterday. I appreciate the terrific community that we’ve built here!

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
