The Steelers' Ryan Shazier on the cover of our SCB Quick Hitters.

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

Among the many offseason decisions the Steelers face with guys like Bud Dupree and B.J. Finney, there is also the matter of Ryan Shazier on the agenda. Shazier will officially be an unrestricted free agent and despite not being able to play, the Steelers have treated him as well as any franchise could. You’ll recall that on December 4th, 2017, Shazier was injured on Monday night in Cincinnati. He would eventually have spinal stabilization surgery to aid his recovery. While his recovery has been inspirational and something we have all rallied around, the hard truth has been that he is unlikely to ever play again. That’s not to say he still doesn’t plan to return to the game but at this time that still remains a long shot. My own feelings, which don’t matter a damn to him, are that he needs to focus on the next phase of his life. He’s already made a remarkable recovery and I would just hate to see him go through anything like this again. I’m of the belief that people make their own choices and what those choices are aren’t my business. The discussions he and the Steelers must be having can’t be easy. If he still wants to play and they are convinced he shouldn’t? I’m not sure where it goes from there. I’m hoping he ultimately decides to stay on as a coach or scout.

The Rooney Rule

Dallas has a new coach in Mike McCarthy. The Giants have agreed to to bring in New England Special Teams and Receivers’ Coach Joe Judge. And the Carolina Panthers will apparently be hiring Baylor’s Matt Rhule. These teams have every right to hire whomever they’d like but I’m to the point now where I wonder if the Rooney Rule even matters anymore. It’s quite clear that Marvin Lewis was brought to Dallas to just meet the requirements of interviewing a minority candidate. I really don’t know what can be done because ultimately owners are going to hire the guy they want but I fear the entire process, that Mr. Rooney tried to have taken so seriously, is becoming a joke.

Tweet of the Day… This was too damn funny not to use today.

Are You Interested in Writing? Doing Graphics? Or Being Our Social Media Person?

With the new year comes changes at SCB and we need to add writers. With the draft approaching, any expertise in that area would be great. We also need to add another graphics person who can create and get out graphics media quickly. Lastly is our social media position. We need someone dedicated to spreading our content across the social media landscape! If you’re interested please contact me at contactscblitz@gmail.com.

Um, What?

I saw someone on Twitter ask who Steelers’ fans would rather have, JuJu Smith-Schuster or Diontae Johnson? Did I miss something? As far as I know, both players are under contract for the 2020 season. JuJu could be in line for a big contract if he bounces back from a sub-par 2019 but Johnson was a rookie this past season and has plenty of time before he’s up for a new deal. This bizarre question also followed another that suggested the Steelers trade JuJu to Buffalo or New England to get a first round draft pick. I honestly do not understand the way some fans think. Sheesh.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
