SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “China Doll” Edition

Happy Hump Day Steelers’ Fans!

With Phase Two of the Steelers’ OTAs underway, the team’s resident ‘China doll’ Ladarius Green, is reportedly a full go right now. I don’t mean to be cruel towards Green but he is what he is right? He’s one hit away from another concussion and the Steelers are one hit away from seeing a once promising free agent signing turn into a bust. At this point, all we as fans can hope for is that Green stays healthy through the offseason and preseason and is ready to go in September.

If Green does in fact struggle to stay healthy in 2017, then looking back at the draft and asking “why didn’t the Steelers take a tight end?” becomes a very fair question. Jake Butt, George Kittle and Jordan Leggett were all on the board when the Steelers selected QB Josh Dobbs. Let’s hope this isn’t something we go back and re-visit during the season.

I know many Steelers’ fans still hold Rashard Mendenhall responsible for the Super Bowl XLV loss and that’s fine but I for one am glad to see him doing what he enjoys because I don’t know that he ever truly enjoyed being a football player. Mendenhall is a writer for the popular HBO program “Ballers” which features The Rock. It’s a good mix of humor and reality in the NFL world.

Tweet of the Day… JuJu has already been indoctrinated!

Last season, DeAngelo Williams carried the ball 98 times. Ben Roethlisberger was third with 16 official carries. Assuming James Conner is the number two in 2017, and going off of Le’Veon Bell’s total of 261 attempts, if Conner is between 90-100 carries how would we judge the season for him? I’m hearing that 100 is the magic number for him.

I honestly think the real culprit in Sidney Crosby’s concussion wasn’t Matt Niskanen. Instead, Alexander Ovechkin and his slash was the bigger issue.

Canaan Severin, who was released by the Steelers yesterday, was just never going to crack the lineup with all of the receivers ahead of him. I will be surprised if he doesn’t find a home on another team because he has some nice things to offer. Brandon Brown-Dukes, Al-Hajj Shabazz and Gus Johnson were also released Tuesday.

The other significant issue I had with the Steelers’ draft was the inability to find a true punt returner. Cam Sutton did it at Tennessee but I don’t see him being the guy as of right now. Bottom line? Antonio Brown has to be relieved of those duties.

Have a great Wednesday Steeler Nation!

You know i have looked at these draft choices and the only thing i can think of is. Potential for the future, they must have been thinking who will be the best player in 3 years. I do think we have a great roster, but we have to drive this race car the way it was built. To me the only elements in the way of a championship or two is the three headed monster. Tomlin, Haley and Butler, we have a very dynamic team but we let it loose. I mean we have the best RB, WR , one of the very best Qb, and a O-LINE that is great. We should be doing much better and to me that reflects directly on the three mentioned coaches. For this team to take it to the next level they have to improve.
