SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Captains My Captains” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

The Steelers elected their team captains yesterday and none of the selections come as any surprise. Ben Roethlisberger and Maurkice Pouncey we’re elected along with Cam Heyward and Roosevelt Nix who will captain the Special Teams. Being a captain is often nothing more than a ceremonial type of thing but there’s no question in my mind that this time around these selections mean a little bit more. All of four of these men learned some things in the past calendar year. Largely, it was probably more about what not to do rather than what to do but I think you get the point. This Steelers’ team seems ready to embrace a “team” concept that has alluded it for some time now. Winning often takes care of a lot of problems in a locker room but when wins aren’t there…. That’s when the leadership really matters.

Steeler Nation Gets Its Wish

Besides Tuzar Skipper, no player this preseason was loved more than wide receiver Johnny Holton. The tall, lanky speedster gave the Black and Gold faithful much to cheer about and when he was cut there was a severe case of disappointment for many in Steeler Nation. Then the Practice Squad was announced and still, no Johnny Holton. The only hope was that the squad still had one opening. That was filled however yesterday by Mr. Holton and as you can imagine, it made Steelers’ Fans very happy.

Tweet of the Day… This is terrific! LoL

Save the Excuses

I will tell you right off the back that I don’t want to hear any excuses next Monday morning if the Steelers’ offense struggles. There are several other teams in the NFL whose starting QB didn’t play a single snap in the preseason. Big Ben essentially had about three series of work. I can already see the social media explosions about “They should have played Ben more in the preseason!” Save it. This is the new normal in today’s pro football. If he or the offense struggles Sunday night? Too bad. Mike Tomlin has chosen this path for his team so let’s see how it unravels.

Today is the Day

If the Steelers are going to actually add a tight end which we feel they desperately need to do then it has to happen today. Otherwise, that player would be highly unlikely to play on Sunday night. The team has been looking for one I can tell you that much. Money and those available are what’s slowing things down. Regardless, I expect to go to New England with what we currently have.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
