SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Butler and Bos” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans!

To start out today I’m commenting on a couple of “B’s.” No not Big Ben and Antonio Brown, but Keith Butler and Chris Boswell. First the Butler news… It was reported yesterday that Mike Tomlin and Keith Butler have had meetings and that the meetings “went well.” Therefore, many are taking this to mean that Butler will return as the Defensive Coordinator of the Steelers in 2019. This is something that doesn’t sit well with me(I called for his firing after the LAC loss) but I’m still going to take a ‘wait and see’ approach for the next few days anyhow.

As for Chris Boswell, I’ve been told that the struggling kicker recently had sports hernia surgery. The injury bothered him throughout the season and certainly helps explain his issues. If this is accurate then I have to give Boswell credit for sticking it out as long as he did. At the same time I have to wonder if he shouldn’t have stepped aside sooner than week 17.

It appears and I stress appears, that Mike Munchak will stay around after not getting the head coaching job in Denver. I threw together these thoughts on it yesterday.

Tweet of the Day… See below for more on this tweet.

Tomlin recently stated that drama was everywhere in the NFL and he’s right. There’s drama in every game, every week and there’s also drama off the field too. The difference is that the drama in Pittsburgh has festered and has been allowed to fester and now it’s turned into linebackers tacking to Twitter to defend Joey Porter. Bud Dupree, Anthony Chickillo, Ola Adeniyi and Keion Adams all tweeted at Pittsburgh Media member Mike Prisuta yesterday. They took issue with a tweet from Prisuta that suggested Porter often pitted the defense against the offense in the locker room and beyond. I’m all for players defending their coach but this is again part of the Steelers’ problem. Keep this crap in-house and quit taking the bait.

It sounds as though Special Teams Coach Danny Smith will return as well. I’ll have thoughts on this and where I stand on Mike Tomlin later on today or tonight.

I think it’s very curious that Mike McCarthy will not be a head coach in 2019 but he says he’ll be “ready to go for 2020.” You can book this right now; if the Steelers struggle next year and miss the playoffs, his name will thrown around A TON about replacing Mike Tomlin.

The latest Antonio Brown rumor is that he “wants to stay in Pittsburgh and win a Super Bowl.” I’m much more into actions than words these days so I’ll just leave it at that.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
