SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Belushi” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

If you’ve never seen the famous movie ‘Animal House’ then we really shouldn’t be friends. Not really, but among many memorable scenes there is one in particular that fits our Steelers today. I’m referring to the motivational speech given by Bluto (John Belushi). Yes, this is the one where he discusses the “Germans bombing Pearl Harbor” but the point of his excited tirade was to never give up. That’s the mindset the Pittsburgh Steelers need to have going into these final two games. There are things that have to happen outside of their control and those will be what they will, but the Steelers can still salvage something from this unusual 2021 season. The ultimate salvage job is winning the final two games and making the postseason. Expectations of a playoff run would be non-existent but hey, just making the party would be an accomplishment. But there’s also salvation in knocking your two most hated rivals out of the postseason as well. Wins over Cleveland and Baltimore would pretty much ensure those teams are home from the postseason and there is always some satisfaction in that. The real story here however is that there is still some season left and goals can be accomplished. Never giving up is a start and will say a lot about this team and it’s coach.

Tomlin Tuesday

Mike Tomlin will once again dazzle us with his myriad cliches and so on today but I’m most curious to hear two questions asked. First, someone has to inquire about the fourth and one play which was doomed from the start. Second, I think he owes everyone more in terms of Kendrick Green getting pulled. In the postgame comments he claimed Green tweaked an ankle which was awfully convenient considering his play was one in which he nearly got his quarterback killed. Regardless, we won’t get much in terms of answers but the questions still need to be asked.

Tweet of the Day… Carole is absolutely right. Some of the best and most knowledgeable fans out there are women.

Coaching Staff Rumblings

With the departure of O-Line Coach Adrian Klemm, speculation is rampant about other coaches following him out the door. From everything I’ve gathered from the people I trust there have been ZERO decisions made about anyone at this time. Anything you see or hear is pure speculation at this point and besides, we all know how the Steelers do things. And oh by the way, today begins the two-week period where teams with coaching vacancies can talk to potential candidates via Zoom.

A Thought on Ben

I’m just thinking out loud but if this is indeed Ben Roethlisberger’s last home game I really think he should announce it. I fully realize I’m being selfish here because I think the scene would be tremendous and he’s deserving of it. The scene at Heinz Field will be electric anyway but this would just add to it. After seeing his family travel to Kansas City last week (they never go to away games) I can’t help but think this is it for him.
