SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Being Too Honest” Edition

Good Day to You Steelers’ Fans!

Welp, if Ben Roethlisberger said something then it’s likely to become a national story. Most of you know my feelings on the issue of any player talking about other players in public; I don’t like it. I think those things are best left to the locker room or practice field only. But that isn’t always how Big Ben operates. So on Tuesday he revealed that he was upset with a couple of his receivers. And of course the screaming and yelling on Twitter and Facebook ensued. Some agreeing with Roethlisberger and others disagreeing. But then this morning on ‘Golic and Wingo’ I heard Trey Wingo say something I never thought I’d hear. He said, “We want honesty from the players but sometimes there’s too much honesty.” OK, wait a minute. So the very media who has been screaming for years about athletes not opening up or being honest enough now wants them to be a “little less honest?” This is why players like Roethlisberger are constantly in ‘catch-22’ situations. Anything they say is then spun into the web of the person listening. Should he have said anything? No, I wish he hadn’t but what he said does not deserve the kind of attention it has received.

Injury Report From Yesterday via steelers.com

STEELERS

QB Ben Roethlisberger (Coach’s Decision) – DNP
S Morgan Burnett (back) – DNP
LB Bud Dupree (Pectoral) – DNP
C Maurkice Pouncey (Coach’s Decision) – DNP
OL B.J. Finney (Personal) – DNP
OT Marcus Gilbert (Knee) – DNP
DE Stephon Tuitt (Elbow) – Limited
TE Xavier Grimble (Concussion) – Full
TE Vance McDonald (Hip) – DNP

CHARGERS

TE Antonio Gates (Rest) – DNP

NT Brandon Mebane (Not Injury Related) – DNP

RB Melvin Gordon (Knee) – DNP

WR Tyrell Williams (Quad) – Limited

RB Austin Ekeler (Neck) – Full

I think Gordon misses this game. He’s been listed as week to week with his sprained knee and while I think it’s an important game for the Chargers I don’t think they’ll want to risk further injury… Stephon Tuitt practicing even in a limited form is good news. See what today brings… Also, keep an eye on the OLB situation with Bud Dupree. If he can’t go that leaves the Steelers dangerously thin.

Tweet of the Day… Us too!

The Steelers activated Eli Rogers yesterday. The team now has 21 days to decide what to do with him moving forward. I see no reason to replace Ryan Switzer right now. He’s getting open and is making some crucial catches. The slot is where Rogers plays so as of this moment he’s insurance.

Many fans didn’t like the pass-oriented gameplan on Sunday. I dug a little deeper to find it wasn’t such a bad idea.

If you really want a topic to dive into then discuss the Steelers’ lack of turnovers on defense. I really thought this unit would provide more than they have and I wish I could put my finger on it specifically. Sometimes the ball just doesn’t go the way you need it to but there’s also something to be said for making a more concerted effort at ‘forcing’ the turnover. Either way that needs to get better over the final five games.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
