SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “All Business” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

I alluded yesterday to the fact that when the Steelers arrive in Latrobe on Thursday that there will be a different aura around the team . At this time, there don’t appear to be any arrivals via tractor, helicopter or tricked out 4×4 truck. Those things are all fine when the team is winning and there’s little outside of that winning to discuss. When things aren’t going as well? Then those decisions on how to arrive don’t look quite as fun and exciting. To this point, Cam Heyward has constantly preached “hard work” and Vince Williams has talked about being “all business.” Again, those things don’t mean a damn thing in regards to winning games. You still have to block, tackle and make plays. Whether you’re ‘behaving’ or not is only one part of the equation. Am I glad to see a new approach and a re-birth if you will? Absolutely I am but once we get the pads on how guys arrived to Camp won’t mean quite as much.

Later today you’re going to start seeing our Training Camp Position Previews. Huge thanks to our terrific graphics man Aaron who never fails to create the perfect graphic for our content!

Tweet of the Day… My goodness was Mike Webster a good football player.

The more the love fest with the Cleveland Browns continues the more I love it. Are they a better football team than in years past? Absolutely. They have the ability on offense to be really, really good and there defense is young and likely pissed off at all the attention the offense gets. The one thing I need to see though begins and ends with Baker Mayfield. Last season he was 1-6 against teams with winning records and his play was average at best. If he starts beating those teams consistently then maybe I’ll buy the hype a bit more.

If you enjoy our coverage of WPIAL High School Football I can tell you that Ian is already grinding away on his conference previews and he’s got a whole lot more planned for this year. As both the Tribune and Post-Gazette continue to eliminate daily service, you know you can count on us for coverage. Heck, you should be coming here for WPIAL coverage anyway.

For all of the talk of depth issues at positions like tight end and safety, the question of who would back up Maurkice Pouncey should he be hurt for any period of time has flown under the radar. B.J. Finney is the likely guy but the Steelers like him much better as a backup or starter at guard than center. Check out my preview of the Offensive Line coming out later for more on this.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
