SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Adversity” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

Every team faces adversity. Some face it more often than others. Some face adversity very little. The Pittsburgh Steelers are now facing it. Big time. With Minkah Fitzpatrick on the Covid-19 list it’s entirely possible the Steelers will play the LA Chargers without Ben Roethlisberger, Chase Claypool, JJSS of course, Tyson Alualu, Stephon Tuitt, T.J. Watt, Kevin Dotson and perhaps Trai Turner. This my friends is what we call “adversity.” If there’s a silver lining here it’s that Mike Tomlin has found ways to turn adversity into victory. He did it last time he played the Chargers out west when he had a guy named Duck Hodges starting at QB. I’m not in any position to suggest he can strike lightning again next week but he’s going to need a lot of it. Next week begins the final stretch of eight games. Going .500 puts them at 9-7-1. There are no guarantees that’s enough to make the postseason so therefore every game goes under the microscope. What else is new right?

Tomlin Tuesday

My guess is that someone will ask Tomlin about the comments of linebacker Joe Schobert who said “we have to take things seriously in practice.” The video shows Schobert saying this twice and admittedly he isn’t angry or upset. He’s just stating a fact. But any time someone says “we need to be serious” I take that as “we haven’t been serious enough.” It will be an interesting presser nevertheless.

Tweet of the Day… this really isn’t a bad idea.

Food for Thought

We all have opinions on the Steelers. I decided to make mine much more visible by creating this site nearly a decade ago. I do my best to be respectful when people disagree or even when they come after me for being wrong or because my opinion “sucks.” We all have one goal with regards to our Steelers but sometimes I think fans forget that. It’s almost like being right or making someone remember when they’re wrong is more important. Sometimes I just don’t get it.

Bush

I’m really starting to wonder if Devin Bush has recovered “mentally” more so than physically from his ACL. That missed tackle on the early second half TD run by the Lions was one of the worst efforts I can recall seeing. Bush reminded me of a guy playing not to get hurt. If that’s the case, I’m not sure he’ll ever return to the promise he had as a rookie. Maybe I’m recklessly thinking… Just want the best for the young man because he knows he isn’t playing well.

The Defense in General

You don’t give up over 200 yards rushing and call yourself a good defense. So far, the unit has excelled in the Red Zone which is good but I really worry over these next eight games. If Detroit can do that then why not Baltimore or Tennessee even without Derrick Henry? The return of Stephon Tuitt would help but I’m not holding my breath. Oh, and did I also mention the missed tackles?
