SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Pens Again” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans!

While I know that not all fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers are fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins, it’s still important to note the Pens have brought home yet another title to the City of Champions after their 2-0 win in game six over Nashville. While the Predators were a worthy opponent, I hope to never see them in the Finals again simply because if I have to see and hear Luke Bryan or Keith Urban again I may in fact jump from any number of bridges in the Steel City. Congrats Pens’ fans! Back-to-Back is no small feat!!

Got some info this weekend on Senquez Golson so far in OTAs. Check out this short piece I put up this morning.

The Steelers will begin their mandatory mini-camp tomorrow. I do expect to see Le’Veon Bell despite both his recovery from offseason groin surgery and his current contract situation.

Speaking of that, with the San Diego, errrrrrr, Los Angeles Chargers signing LB Melvin Ingram to a long-term deal yesterday, will that impact the negotiations with Bell? While they play two very different positions, the guaranteed money is what could come in to play. Ingram, who also had been tagged, signed a four-year, $66 million deal. $42 million of which (64%) is guaranteed. Look back at the Steelers’ history and you’ll find that’s way more than they usually guarantee which is typically the signing bonus.

Tweet of the Day… No rookie has embraced Pittsburgh quite like JuJu Smith-Schuster has!

Cowboys’ wide receiver Dez Bryant recently advocated for cornerback Darrelle Revis to come to Dallas. I wouldn’t say that’s impossible but I expect Revis to take his time before choosing where to go and while a long shot, I think he visits with the Steelers unless someone throws an unusually high amount of money at him.

If you’ll recall, when the Steelers drafted Markus Wheaton out of Oregon State, he missed a ton of OTAs because of a ridiculously stupid rule that says rookies can’t participate if their respective schools are still in session. Christian McCaffrey of the Panthers is going through this right now where he can do nothing but watch despite the fact he didn’t even attend school at Stanford this past spring. Stupid, stupid rule.

ICYMI: The Steelers sent a contingent down to Mexico City last week that included James Harrison, Ramon Foster and Joey Porter among others. Check out their travels here courtesy steelers.com.

Have a great week Steeler Nation!

P.S. Nashville’s copying of two long-standing traditions (their catfish and their towels) is a perfect illustration of that city’s music scene. Nothing original has come out of there in years!
