SCB Steelers Quick Hitters

TGIF Steelers Fans! Let’s get to it!

There were two significant roster moves made by the Steelers on Thursday. Long-time long snapper Greg Warren and injury-plagued tight end Ladarius Green were both released following failed physicals. While we do not know the specifics for each, we are told that Warren’s knees were problematic and in the case of Green, there were still concussion issues. Warren leaves after an outstanding career that dates back to the Bill Cowher days.

For Green, it will be a case of ‘what if.’ He played in just six games last year yet collected $6 million dollars from the Steelers as their prized free agent acquisition. I will be very surprised if Green continues to play. He is literally one more big hit away from a lifetime of problems.

With Green gone, Jesse James ascends to the number one tight end position. Behind him are Xavier Grimble, David Johnson and rookies Scott Orndoff and Phazhan Odom. I expect the Steelers to find a veteran tight end before camp begins if not sooner. I have to believe former Browns’ TE Gary Barnidge has already received a call from the Steelers.

Speaking of Barnidge, he was one of many topics on The Steel City Blitz Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh. Give it a listen right here and you can find us on iTunes as well!

Tweet of the Day… Can’t imagine the emotion young men like JuJu feel when they see this for the first time.

There has been much discussion over the Steelers’ Medical Staff following the release of Green. Questioning just how good they are is valid after they cleared a player with previous concussions. What you have to understand however is that no doctor can lift the hood on a player’s brain. There are only so many things that they can do and if the player passes those tests? Then he has to be cleared.

As far as playing ‘armchair doctor…’ Just stop and I say that to myself as well. We sometimes all try to put in our two cents on these things when what we really should do is shut up and let the experts talk about it.

Good luck to the Pens tonight in a crucial game four in Ottawa.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
