Practice Report from Thursday: Did Not Participate – Cortez Allen, Ben Roethlisberger, Ross Ventrone… Full Participant –  Ryan Shazier, Dan McCullers, Matt Spaeth, Markus Wheaton

There was some discussion yesterday about whether Martavis Bryant had actually been practicing. Because he still has not been formally activated (and doesn’t have to be until 4pm Monday) the team does not have to list him on the practice report.

As I told you when it was first diagnosed, the Cortez Allen knee issue is chronic. Don’t be surprised if this goes all season and continues to show just how badly the Steelers botched his contract situation.

Tweet of the Day…. Check out former Steelers’ great Aaron Smith!

I’m so sick and tired of hearing about the difficulty in adjusting to Michael Vick’s ‘left-handed spin’ that I’m ready to puke. I don’t remember Jerry Rice complaining when Steve Young replaced Joe Montana. Catch the damn ball.

One guy who is quietly having a nice season is Marcus Gilbert. I’m not sure that’s something any of us would have said heading into the year. Gilbert has always been ‘decent’ but scared the crap out of us at times too. So far, I like what I see.

Ben Roethlisberger has been throwing balls and actually jogged off the practice field yesterday. I stand by my earlier prediction that he will return for the Arizona game. Especially if the Steelers lose in San Diego.

A play that got lost in the discussion of other questionable offensive decisions against the Ravens was the slant route to rookie Sammie Coates. That was a classic case of Vick pre-determining his throw and I don’t know that I would trust a rookie in his very first game in that spot.

Ryan Shazier is practicing fully but I’m still not sure he plays Monday night. Nerve damage, especially in the shoulder, is not easy to bounce back from.

Have a great weekend Steelers Nation!

Ya, I know but he’s notorious for coming back too soon. If we lose to SD I can see it.

Actually Rice did say it took him some to get use to the different spin on Steve Young’s passes.

Thanks Bob. I hadn’t heard that. Still, catch the damn ball.
