SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Cliche’ Fest” Fest Edition

by Steeldad

Good Day Steelers’ Fans!

In what will easily be his most difficult weekly press conference in quite some time, Steelers’ Head Coach Mike Tomlin takes the stage at Noon Eastern today on steelers.com. I say “difficult” not because he’ll actually face tough questions from the beat writers but because the team has lost three straight including the most recent to rival Baltimore in ugly fashion. It would be nice to hear some local guys address the elephants in the room but they are largely handcuffed and Tomlin won’t give straight answers anyway. Get ready for the cliches folks. Obviously.

I want to explain why I think  Martavis Bryant needs to shut up. First of all, I’m over the fact he smoked dope and missed drug tests. It was selfish and immature and he’s paying the price by being banned from playing for a year. He is not banned however from making comments on social media. After the loss on Sunday, he took to Snapchat and made himself sound like a victim. Puh-leeze. Bryant needs to focus on his wife and child and getting himself right so that he can be the contributor the Steelers need.

I’ve been told that there is deep concern in the front office. That does not mean the team is going to fire Mike Tomlin. What it means is that there is serious concern, perhaps greater than at any time during his tenure, about what’s going on. Patterns have developed and they aren’t changing. That’s not good.

Tweet of the Day… Pretty straight forward from the former Steeler.

One of the things lost in the overall dismal performance was the play of rookie Artie Burns. Yes, he got roasted by Mike Wallace in a situation where that couldn’t happen because he only had one guy (Mike Mitchell who whiffed) behind him. But he played much better than I thought he would. His one defensive pass interference call was questionable at best. Overall, not too bad for the rookie.

The Steelers face a difficult decision with Maurkice Pouncey. His thumb is pretty bad from what I’m told. No way he can snap the ball but players with similar injuries have been able to play guard. It’s possible Pouncey could become a swing player with Finney moving to center and the need for another guard still there. The injury to Cody Wallace has become more devastating than most of us would have thought.

The Steelers have signed Marcus Tucker to the practice squad today as well.

Have a great day Steeler Nation! Get out and vote!
