SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Call Out” Edition

by Steeldad

Good morning Steeler Fans. Tuesday is upon us and what feel this day has I have no idea.

The Steelers will practice today from 1045am to 1230pm. After tomorrow’s practice they will be off until Monday.

Steelers’ defensive captain Cam Heyward did not mince words over the defense’s performance on Sunday. Heyward thought the D “quit” at a key moment when the score was 20-16 and gave up the clinching Patriots’ touchdown drive. I have no problem with a team captain speaking up but it does strike me as awkward when he didn’t even play. Nonetheless I hope the words hit home with this unit.

Ryan Shazier also called out the defense’s inability to stop the run as well. He called the unit “garbage.” Over 300 yards rushing in two straight games? I’d say that’s pretty trashy.

I’m told there is some friction on the defensive side of the ball with Coordinator Keith Butler. I wrote about it yesterday.

Do not for one second sleep on Baltimore because they’ve lost four straight. They will be ready for the Steelers and Mike Tomlin better realize it. The Steelers have lost three straight and five of the last six against the Ravens.

Tweet of the Day… Plax is back!

Steelers’ Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis has been selected as one of four former players to captain the Pro Bowl teams at the end of the season. A certain former Baltimore linebacker is also part of that group but he won’t be mentioned by name in this space.

In the last two weeks, rookie Sean Davis has had three snaps on defense. That tells me the Steelers erred in trying to make him a slot corner. That position was originally supposed to be for Senquez Golson and when he went down the Steelers rushed to get Davis in there. It just doesn’t fit his skill set. He’s a safety and not a slot CB. All that said I wonder how Davis would have fared against Rob Gronkowski had he been given a chance.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
