SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for August 29th, 2014

by Steeldad

There is not a whole lot to take from last night’s 10-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers in the preseason finale at Heinz Field. That doesn’t mean there aren’t a few important story-lines to check in on.

-Wide Receiver Martavis Bryant suffered an AC sprain of his shoulder. It’s thought to be serious enough to where discussions of the IR/Designated to Return list have popped up.

-Lightning rod Landry Jones was 14 of 18 for 97 yards last night but he produced no points and was sacked three times. We believe he doesn’t deserve a spot on the 53-man roster but we also concede Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert like having three QBs. That said, we’d love to see Jones left off so a younger, more promising player can be on the roster.

-Speaking of the roster, here’s our final 53-man roster projection.

-We’ve suspected for some time that Darrius Heyward-Bey would make the roster and he has with good play on offense and on special teams.

-This team was a freak play at the end of regulation against a horrible Bills’  team from being 0-4 in the preseason again. Think about that for a second.

-With so few starters playing last night it’s hard to gauge much but the run defense was a a bit better and that’s a good sign. Brett Keisel should improve over the next week or two in terms of game speed.

-Keisel’s presence helped Jarvis Jones who had his best game of the preseason.

-While the defense was better against the run, they gave up another long drive on the first series of the game and that’s not a good trend.
