SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 1/28/16

by Steeldad

The Senior Bowl is underway in Mobile, Alabama and as usual the Steelers’ brass is well represented.

What we know… The Steelers spoke with USC quarterback Cody Kessler and you can see my thoughts on the Steelers’ drafting a QB this year right here. Kessler is an interesting prospect in that he’s not your typical Southern Cal QB. He’s a kid from Northern California who has a very good head on his shoulders. He has a nice arm and good mobility and is probably looking at a late round selection.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has the Steelers taking Arkansas tight end Hunter Henry with the 25th overall pick. As I tweeted, I wouldn’t hate the selection. The Steelers need to get a tight end who can do a little bit of everything with Heath Miller not getting any younger.

As for what the Steelers are looking at this week let’s just call it “a little bit of everything.” Right now, you keep the doors to everything open while at the same time starting to focus in on what your areas of need are. One guy that had a very good day of practice was Duke Safety Jeremy Cash who is a very intriguing prospect. He’s listed as a strong safety but this past year he only lined up as a true SS twice. Most of the time he was at a linebacker or slot cover position. I guarantee the Steelers are paying close attention to him.

Tweet of the Day… DWill doing more good stuff.

If you didn’t get a chance to vote in this week’s poll here it is.

One guy you’ll notice was missing from my free agent write-up on the Offensive Line was Mike Adams. SCB writer Ben is excellent with salary and cap issues and he pointed out that Adams has one more year on his current deal because he was on the Physically Unable to Perform list all year. So rather than being a free agent, he has another year left.

Have a great Thursday Steelers’ Nation!
