Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Monday.

The Kickoff

The 2024 National Football League season is now officially over after the Philadelphia Eagles took Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs behind the woodshed. Philly took an early 10-0 lead, got a pick-six from a rookie and never looked back in a 40-22 win. Don’t let the score fool you either. This game wasn’t remotely that close. While the 2025 season doesn’t “officially” begin until March 12th, the truth is that the NFL season never ends. One season just rolls into the next.

The Trenches

If you don’t believe that football games are won in the trenches then I honestly don’t know what to tell you. The Eagles’ defensive line was last night’s MVP in my book. They blitzed very seldom if at all and dominated. When you don’t have to bring a fifth rusher against Mahomes that makes a huge difference. Conversely, the Eagles’ offensive line wasn’t dominant but they largely kept Jalen Hurts clean. Our Steelers are a long way from this.

Just Say No

It’s likely that Aaron Rodgers is not returning to the New York Jets. Deebo Samuel has been told the 49ers will try to trade him. And Steelers fans inevitably believe these two will lead us to glory. Rodgers will no doubt be linked to Pittsburgh because of his mini bromances with Mike Tomlin. Samuel was a guy the Steelers asked about last season, likely in the same breath as the one where they inquired about Brandon Aiyuk. Both of these guys bring some talent and a whole lot of drama. I will be just fine without them and you will too.

Interesting… This could be very true. Wonder if he was ever checked out or if the NFL “spotters” noticed this?

The QB Chronicles

As we discussed on the SCB Steelers Podcast last week, fans have to recognize that news is often leaked intentionally. And by different camps. In the last 10 days there have been things released by the Steelers (through Gerry Dulac) and things released by Russell Wilson (through himself and his agent). From what I have gathered, Mike Tomlin appears to be in the Wilson Camp while just about everyone else in the building prefers Justin Fields. There are no guarantees of either returning.

Najee Returning?

A report over the weekend suggested the Steelers would be open to the idea of re-signing Najee Harris. Let’s discuss why this is not a good idea. First of all, Harris is a good person, a tremendously hard worker and his most important asset has been his availability. But he is not a fit for what Arthur Smith likes to do and the Steelers desperately need a home run hitter at the position. If Harris strikes out on the free agent market then I could see him returning for a relatively low price. That said, I think teams like the Bears and Raiders will be interested.

Random Reads

I have accepted that I’ve reached the age where Super Bowl Halftime shows mean little to me. Mostly because I know so little about many of the performers. That’s a knock on me, not them… The commercials were decent but once again there was nothing that people will be raving about at the water cooler today… The Chiefs’ had been shuffling their offensive line most of the season and it finally caught up with them. Other than Creed Humphrey in the middle, they didn’t have a chance last night… I used to love Super Bowl Sunday. Now? I almost can’t wait for it to be over. It’s a wonder they even play the game anymore with all the attention that everything BUT the game receives. Of course the Steelers being in the game would help…
