Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Victory Monday.

The Kickoff

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 4-2. Ask yourself, would you have signed up for that record right now when the season began? Football games always come down to a handful of plays. Yesterday’s 32-13 win in Pittsburgh, errrrrrr, Las Vegas, was an example of that. Last week’s loss to Dallas was too. The Steelers now have two primetime home games before the BYE. Most of us believed back in August that they needed to be 6-2 at the break with such a daunting schedule ahead. Will they get to that? We shall find out.

Fields vs Wilson

One guy can be in games with his legs. One guy can win by getting the ball out quickly. The one guy who has to decide which of them plays is Mike Tomlin. I was a little surprised that Russell Wilson didn’t get a few snaps yesterday late in the fourth quarter but then again, Tomlin knew what that would create. The fan base, within minutes of the game ending yesterday, was already at odds over who should be running the offense. My gut feeling is that Justin Fields will have two more starts to prove he’s the starter. When the BYE hits, Mike Tomlin will make his choice for the second half of the season.

The Wizard of Bos

Chris Boswell has missed field goals before and he will miss them again. That’s the life of a kicker. Yesterday he made all six (4 FG, 2 PAT). Ho-hum day at the office right? If you didn’t already appreciate number nine, take a moment to do so. We’ve been blessed with a solid kicker for a decade now.

Najee

Look, love him or hate him, I find it very difficult for anyone to criticize the effort of Najee Harris. I don’t know what will happen to him in the off-season and while there’s plenty to nitpick about his overall game, I appreciated him showing up for every game and busting his ass.

M.V.P.?

I’ve seen a lot of the chatter about T.J. Watt and the Most Valuable Player Award. Keep in mind, defensive players rarely win this. The last defensive player to win it was Lawrence Taylor in 1986. I’m not saying T.J. can’t win it but the odds are long my friends.

Pickens

Did you like how the Steelers handled George Pickens yesterday? They tried to get him involved early and he struggled to catch the ball or was covered. Then, with the game pretty much settled, they threw deep to him and then again on first down into the end zone. Talk about trying to keep a guy happy…

Broderick Jones

Is he playing hurt right now? Yes, we all know that elbow isn’t 100% but that doesn’t excuse some of the mental errors that are taking place. He nearly got his QB and his running backs killed on several different plays yesterday. I really want to believe in him yet I just can’t right now.

The Highsmith Effect

I don’t think there’s any doubt that the loss of Alex Highsmith is affecting T.J. Watt. Instead of the usual two guys he has to go through on the way to the quarterback, he’s now often facing three. With DeMarvin Leal now out for the season, Jeremiah Moon has to step up. He had a few moments yesterday but he must become more of a threat. Watt can’t do it all by himself.

D-Jack

How do you feel about the Diontae Johnson trade? I understand your argument if you’re still thinking his absence is making this offense worse but Donte Jackson has done a pretty damn good job if you ask me. He has an interception in each of his last two games and nearly had another on a well-read pass break up.

Random Reads

The Ravens and Lions have the best offenses in pro football right now. The good news is that we don’t play Detroit. The bad news is we still have Baltimore twice. Hopefully our past success against Lamar Jackson can continue… Awful injury for Aidan Hutchinson. Hope his recovery goes well… Know who has been really quiet? Larry Ogunjobi… DeShon Elliott is easily my favorite signing of the off-season. This dude is playing hard, tackles well and has been a great leader on defense too… Calvin Austin III spent much of Sunday running free in the Raiders’ secondary. Have to get him the ball more often… Know who else could use a couple more touches per game? Darnell Washington. Let him run seven yards out, turn and box out the defender. It’s not difficult…
