The Kickoff
If there’s even one person – in the fan base or on the roster – that thinks tonight will just be a cake walk then let me point to exhibit A. Exhibit A is exactly why you don’t look past ANY opponent in the National Football League. Exhibit A is the Baltimore Ravens. With the exception of the Detroit Lions, no one was playing as well as the Ravens were heading into Cleveland. The Browns were 1-6 and going nowhere. Then Jameis Winston showed up and led the Browns to an upset win over a Ravens’ team that ran Derrick Henry just 11 times. Over-confidence and using your star running back less than a dozen times is a recipe for disaster. Here’s hoping the Steelers were paying attention.
Late Injury News
Cordarrelle Patterson has officially been ruled out for tonight. Justin Fields was a late edition to the injury report as well. He is questionable with a hamstring injury that popped in practice. I’m told that he may end up being the emergency QB if his hammy doesn’t respond to treatment before the game.
Added Significance?
With the Ravens falling to 5-3, the Steelers being 6-2 at their BYE week looks and feels a lot better. The Cincinnati Bengals also lost, their fourth loss at home this season by the way and they are now 3-5. Cincy still has one of the easier schedules remaining but they seem to be a mess. The defense is not very good and apparently Ja’Marr Chase didn’t even know what time the game was yesterday.
Random Reads
I try to tell kids all the time. If you want to talk smack then you better back it up. Bears’ DB Tyrique Stevenson decided to taunt Commanders’ fans while their team was snapping the ball for a hail mary. Once he realized what was happening, he sprinted to the end zone, jumped and deflected the ball into the air rather than down. Noah Brown caught it for the game-winning TD. Sometimes it’s better to shut up and play… The Buffalo-Seattle game was almost unwatchable. A league high for penalties and some sloppy play especially by the Seahawks… Don’t be surprised if Minkah Fitzpatrick finally has a turnover or creates one tonight. There aren’t many players more “due” than he is and the way Daniel Jones slings it? I can see it happening… Color Rush uniforms tonight. Doesn’t get much better than that… Here We Go!
