Hey Steelers Fans! Welcome to Friday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will finish the 2024 preseason schedule tomorrow in Detroit. Regardless of the outcome (which doesn’t matter by the way), there is a chance that no matter what happens in Ford Field, it won’t be positive. I say this because Mike Tomlin is playing his starters. The Detroit Lions are not. If Russell Wilson leads a couple of touchdown-scoring drives, we would all be quite relieved. Yet at the same time, those would come at the expense of Lions’ backups. At the end of the day, I think we need some positive things to discuss regardless of who they are at the expense of so I’ll take whatever I can get tomorrow.

Why Warren Matters
My biggest concern with Jaylen Warren being out for any length of time in the regular season is his ability to move the chains. I don’t mean in the regular fashion either. How many times have we seen Warren catch a third down pass well short of the stick only to wiggle and smash his way to a first down. The Steelers don’t really have a guy that can do that to the level of Warren. That’s my biggest concern.
Cutdown Day
Coming up on Tuesday, all 32 teams will have to establish their 53-man rosters. Please, please, please… Keep in mind that whatever the 53 looks like on Tuesday really doesn’t matter. Omar Khan will be incredibly active as hundreds of players become available. There will also be guys headed to Injured Reserve, the Practice Squad etc. So when the squad is revealed, take a breath and realize it will change before week one gets here.
Aiyuk
The story that just won’t die… Within minutes of Washington trading Johan Dotson to the Eagles I told the guys I wonder if ‘Brandon Aiyuk to the Commanders’ is back on. Sure enough, it looks like that is exactly the case. I still have a hard time believing the Steelers are going to trade for him and then turn around and pay him $30 million per season. I just can’t see it.
Random Rumblings
I think Tom Brady is going to be really good in the broadcast booth and I also think he’s going to be brutally honest. Some people aren’t going to like it… Russell Wilson needs to play well tomorrow and for numerous reasons… I suspect we’ll see a lot of Kyle Allen in the second half and he’s easily the number three guy. But I can also see a scenario where he becomes available in a trade. He played well in week one and if he plays decently again in week two a team with a backup need could come calling… I wonder if any other team has many former players coming back during Camp as the Steelers do… In the same breath, what about celebrities? Motown legend Smokey Robinson was at Camp this year.
