Hey Steelers fans! Welcome to Wednesday.
We are really going to do this again aren’t we? For months we endured the “Brandon Aiyuk is coming to the Steelers” stuff only to see him sign a deal to stay with San Francisco. Now the Las Vegas Raiders are listening to trade offers for Davante Adams. According to numerous sources, the Raiders will listen for a second round offer for starters. Adams will turn 32 years old on Christmas Eve and how much he has left in the tank is up for debate. While Adams still has 2025 and 2026 on his contract those two years aren’t guaranteed so there’s flexibility. Obviously Adams is still very talented and he’s very frustrated with the situation in Vegas. Here are my thoughts or questions however. First, would Adams even want to come to Pittsburgh? It’s a run heavy offense that will be relying on an incredibly young line to power it. Secondly, would the Steelers really give up a second round pick for a player that could potentially be here for just the remainder of the season? Adams immediately makes the offense better. Teams would not be able to focus solely on George Pickens and space would open up for tight ends and slot receivers as well. The thing I keep coming back to is whether Omar Khan and Mike Tomlin truly believe this team can compete for a Super Bowl. A second round pick (plus late round selections potentially) is a lot to give up unless you honestly believe you’re one player away.
Steelers History
Gordon takes us back to the 1970’s when Franco Harris had a record-breaking day in Three Rivers Stadium.
Tomlin
During his weekly presser Mike Tomlin made it clear that Justin Fields was in line to start his fifth straight game. He also made it clear that Russell Wilson’s participation would be ramped up this week. I also like that he took the NFL to task when saying they agreed that Minkah Fitzpatrick’s hit should not have been flagged. It doesn’t make things better but at least Tomlin was willing to say the NFL acknowledged the poor officiating.
O-Line Perspective
I get the feeling in recent days that fans are sold on the fact that the offensive line will be horrendous now moving forward with so much youth. I understand that but I also think there’s reason for optimism as well. And getting Isaac Seumalo back will be a huge factor for the entire O-Line.
Random Reads
One “legitimate” website is suggesting the Steelers trade George Pickens for Davante Adams and a third rounder. Why? All it does is make you older and worse at the WR position… Speculation that RB Jonathan Ward will be elevated to the active roster this week. He brings a little bit more dynamism to the position than does Aaron Shampklin… Many fans are worried about CeeDee Lamb this week and rightfully so but the guy who really scares me is TE Jake Ferguson. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him have a big game against us… I’ve already cast my ballot so therefore I should not have to endure any more of this election crap.
